Draft Genome Sequence of the blaOXA-436- and blaNDM-1-Harboring Shewanella putrefaciens SA70 Isolate.

ABSTRACT: We sequenced a carbapenem-resistant Shewanella putrefaciens isolate cultured from the sink handle of a Pakistan hospital room. Assembly annotation indicates that the isolate has a chromosomal blaOXA-436 carbapenemase and a plasmid-borne blaNDM-1 gene. To our knowledge, this is the first report of a Shewanella species harboring blaNDM.

This strain harbors both plasmid and chromosomal resistance determinants toward different ?-lactams and aminoglycosides as well as several types of multidrug efflux pumps, most likely representing an adaptation strategy for survival under different environments.

Project description:We report a 63,584-bp conjugative IncL plasmid (pUR17313-1) from an Enterobacter cloacae clinical isolate, containing a blaOXA-48 gene. The plasmid sequence also carried important mobile genetic elements involved in the spread of antibiotic resistance, namely, the Tn1999.2 composite transposon, which enclosed blaOXA-48-, integrase-, and transposase-encoding genes.

Project description:Shewanella algae strain C6G3, isolated from the 2 uppermost centimeters of muddy sediment of Arcachon Bay (SW Atlantic French coast, sampled in October 2007) has the capability to use a large panel of terminal electron acceptors under anaerobic condition, such as nitrate, nitrite and metal-oxide, and presents a great metabolic versatility. Here, we present the non-contiguous draft-genome sequence of Shewanella algae C6G3, which consists of a 4,879,425 bp. The chromosome contains 5792 predicted genes. In total, the genome consists of 24 rRNA genes, 86 tRNA genes and 5660 genes assigned as protein-coding genes.
