A new species, <i>Cherax warsamsonicus</i><b>sp. n.</b>, endemic to the Warsamson River drainage, in the western part of the Kepala Burung (Vogelkop) peninsula, West Papua, Indonesia, is described, figured and compared with its closely related species, <i>Cherax misolicus</i> Holthuis, 1949.
