Sonic hedgehog (SHH) is an essential morphogenetic signal that dictates cell fate decisions in several developing organs in mammals. <i>In vitro</i> data suggest that SHH is required to specify LHX3<sup>+</sup>/LHX4<sup>+</sup> Rathke's pouch (RP) progenitor identity.
