Complete Genome Sequence of Microcystis aeruginosa NIES-2481 and Common Genomic Features of Group G M. aeruginosa.

Project description:Microcystis aeruginosa is a freshwater bloom-forming cyanobacterium that is distributed worldwide. M. aeruginosa can be divided into at least 8 phylogenetic groups (A-G and X) at the intraspecific level. Here, we report the complete genome sequence of M. aeruginosa NIES-2481, which was isolated from Lake Kasumigaura, Japan, and is assigned to group G. The complete genome sequence of M. aeruginosa NIES-2481 comprises a 4.29-Mbp circular chromosome and a 147,539-bp plasmid; the circular chromosome and the plasmid contain 4,332 and 167 protein-coding genes, respectively. Comparative analysis with the complete genome of M. aeruginosa NIES-2549, which belongs to the same group with NIES-2481, showed that the genome size is the smallest level in previously sequenced M. aeruginosa strains, and the genomes do not contain a microcystin biosynthetic gene cluster in common. Synteny analysis revealed only small-scale rearrangements between the two genomes.

Project description:Microcystis aeruginosa is one of the major species that cause toxic cyanobacterial blooms in freshwater systems worldwide. Here, we report the draft genome sequence of M. aeruginosa PMC 728.11, a microcystin-producing cyanobacterium isolated from the freshwater reservoir of Juanon in Valence, France. The genome sequence contains 276 contigs, consisting of 5,536,025?bp and 5,594 putative protein-coding genes, among which are several biosynthetic gene clusters encoding enzyme complexes involved in the production of various bioactive and toxic metabolites.

Strain ZiA1 was cocultured with iron-reducing and toluene-degrading bacteria in an enrichment culture from tidal flat sediment. Like the genomes of other strains of "Ca. Izimaplasma," the ZiA1 genome contained genes required for anaerobic fermentation.

This MAG contributes to the genomic information regarding the family Rhizobiaceae.

Project description:We report the first complete genome of Microcystis aeruginosa from North America. A harmful bloom that occurred in the Caloosahatchee River in 2018 led to a state of emergency declaration in Florida. Although strain FD4 was isolated from this toxic bloom, the genome did not have a microcystin biosynthetic gene cluster.
