SCO (<i>S</i>ynthesis of <i>C</i>ytochrome <i>c O</i>xidase) proteins are present in prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells, and are often required for efficient synthesis of the respiratory enzyme cytochrome <i>c</i> oxidase.
