A Rare Case of Pure Erythroid Sarcoma in a Pediatric Patient: Case Report and Literature Review.

ABSTRACT: We describe an exceptional case of erythroid sarcoma in a pediatric patient as a growing orbital mass with no evidence of morphologic bone marrow involvement, who was finally diagnosed of pure erythroid sarcoma based on histopathology and flow cytometry criteria. We discuss the contribution of standardized eight-color flow cytometry as a rapid and reliable diagnostic method. The use of normal bone marrow databases allowed us to identify small aberrant populations in bone marrow and later confirm the diagnosis in the neoplastic tissue.

Rare giant maxillay mucocele: A rare case report and literature review.

Project description:IntroductionMucocele is a slow growing, benign but locally aggressive cystic structure lined by true epithelium. It often results due to obstructed sinus outflow or obstruction of gland-like mucous retention cyst. It can cause bony destruction and might result in orbital symptoms like diplopia, orbital displacement, visual disturbances. Other clinical features are facial numbness, dental problems, etc. Radiological evaluation is the preferred diagnostic modality. Surgical removal is the treatment of choice both endoscopic and open (could well luc) approach or combined approach are preferred. Here we report a very typical case of maxillary mucocele who presented with subtle symptoms of nasal obstruction. The study was done in compliance with SCARE guidelines.[1].Case presentationWe present a very unique case of 24 years man with complaints of nasal obstruction and swelling over the right cheek for 2 years. He had a history of facial trauma two years back. Diagnosis was made on the basis of radiological examination CT (Computed Tomography) scan. He underwent enucleation via Cold well Luc's approach with good postoperative results.ConclusionMaxillary mucoceles are slow growing benign lesions. However, they are locally aggressive and cause bony destruction resulting into orbital and dental symptoms. Thus early recognistion with regular folllowr up and planning for surgical intervention can help avoid complications.

Pulmonary artery sarcoma: Case report and review of the literature.

Project description:Pulmonary artery sarcoma is a rare malignancy with poor prognosis which can be misdiagnosed as pulmonary thromboembolism. We present a case of a middle age woman who initially diagnosed with presumptive pulmonary embolism that was later found to have pulmonary artery sarcoma. Symptoms, pathology, imaging characteristics and available treatments are discussed.

A rare case of leptomeningeal carcinomatosis in a patient with uveal melanoma: case report and review of literature.

Project description:Uveal melanoma is a rare subtype of melanoma, accounting for only 3-5% of all melanoma cases in the USA. Although fewer than 4% of uveal melanoma patients present with metastasis at diagnosis, approximately half will develop metastasis, more than 90% of which disseminate to the liver. Infrequently, a number of malignancies can lead to leptomeningeal metastases, a devastating and terminal complication. In this case report, we present an exceedingly rare case of a patient with uveal melanoma who developed leptomeningeal carcinomatosis as the sole site of metastasis. After conventional methods to diagnose leptomeningeal carcinomatosis fell short, a diagnosis was confirmed on the basis of identification and genomic analysis of melanoma circulating tumor cells in the cerebrospinal fluid.

Left atrial spindle cell sarcoma: A case report and literature review.

Project description:RationaleCardiac primary spindle cell sarcoma is 1 of the rarest cardiac malignancies, with only a few cases reported so far. Herein, we reported a case of left atrial spindle cell sarcoma diagnosed and treated by a multidisciplinary approach, and retrospectively reviewed other reported cases.Patient concernsA 49-year-old woman presented to our hospital with 2 weeks of gradual onset of dyspnea on exertion, dry cough and subacute fever.DiagnosisThe patient was initially revealed a left atrium mass by 2-dimensional transthoracic echocardiography. Based on the contrast-enhanced echocardiography and cardiac magnetic resonance imaging, she was subsequently suggested to have a cardiac malignant tumor. And the post-operative histopathology confirmed the tumor to be a cardiac primary spindle cell sarcoma.InterventionsThe tumor was completely resected using autotransplantation. The patient was referred for polychemotherapy afterwards.OutcomesOur patient underwent the tumor resection, with subsequent adjuvant polychemotherapy, and the tumor has not recurred during 12 months of follow-up.LessonsDue to the rarity of these tumors and nonspecific symptoms, they are often difficult to diagnose preoperatively and missed occasionally. Thus, improving our understanding of the disease and facilitating its early diagnosis are essential.

Pancreatic follicular dendritic cell sarcoma: one case report and literature review.

Project description:Pancreatic follicular dendritic cell sarcoma (FDCS) is a rare neoplasm with unclear pathological characteristics. In this study, we report one case of pancreatic FDCS and review published cases to summarize the characteristics and treatment of pancreatic FDCS. A man in his early 30 s was admitted for jaundice, abdominal fullness, and weight loss for 15 days. Computed tomography revealed a large capsule solid mass in the pancreatic head together with a dilated bile duct and enlarged retroperitoneal lymph nodes. Serum biochemistry revealed high total bilirubin levels (313.9 μmol/L) and normal tumor marker levels. Pancreatoduodenectomy was performed, but no chemotherapy was administrated at the patient's behest. The pathologic diagnosis was pancreatic FDCS infiltrating the duodenal seromuscular layer and common bile duct. The patient presented with liver metastasis 3 months after surgery and died 8 months after surgery from multiorgan failure. Pancreatic FDCS is a rare disease with high invasiveness. Our previous case exhibited paraneoplastic syndrome together with this disease, and further investigation is needed to confirm whether paraneoplastic syndrome is a typical syndrome of pancreatic FDCS.

Holt-Oram Syndrome in a Patient with Crohn's Disease: a Rare Case Report and Literature Review.

Project description:Introduction:Holt-Oram syndrome (HOS) is an uncommon autosomal dominant disorder defined by congenital cardiac defects, some anatomical deformities in the upper limb and conduction abnormalities. Sequence alteration of TBX5 gene located on chromosome 12 has associated with HOS. Case report:We present the case of a 26-year-old female with known upper limb alteration and ventricular septal defect who later in life developed Crohn's disease. Conclusion:To the best of our knowledge association of Holt-Oram syndrome with Crohn's disease has not been reported in literature before. Therefore, a possible genetic connection between Holt-Oram syndrome and Crohn's disease remains to be determined.

Robinow Syndrome: A Rare Case Report and Review of Literature.

Project description:Robinow syndrome is an extremely rare genetic disorder. Short-limbed dwarfism, abnormalities in the head, face, and external genitalia, as well as vertebral defects comprise its distinct features. This disorder exists in dominant and recessive patterns. Patients with the dominant pattern exhibit moderate symptoms. More physical characteristics and skeletal abnormalities characterize the recessive group. The syndrome is also known as Robinow-Silverman-Smith syndrome, Robinow dwarfism, fetal face, fetal face syndrome, fetal facies syndrome, acral dysostosis with facial and genital abnormalities, or mesomelic dwarfism-small genitalia syndrome. Covesdem syndrome was the name entitled for the recessive form previously. Myoepithelial carcinoma or epithelioid sarcoma - A rare diagnosis with poor prognosis. A case report and review of literature.

Project description:Myoepithelial carcinoma and proximal-type epithelioid sarcoma of the vulva are two rare malignancies with known aggressive behavior. In addition to a similar clinical course, these two disease entities also have significant histologic and pathologic overlap. Given the rarity of these malignancies, there is limited literature on the appropriate treatment regimen. Nevertheless, there is a consensus that early surgical resection is beneficial in both cases.We present a case of a patient who was initially diagnosed with myoepithelial carcinoma of the vulva with a differential later expanded to include possible epithelioid sarcoma.We demonstrate the importance in early identification of a SMARCB1 deficiency. Additionally, we suggest an appropriate treatment regimen for these patients going forward. Specifically, we encourage consideration of bilateral superficial and deep inguinal lymphadenectomies. Furthermore, sarcoma based chemotherapy regimens in the appropriate clinical setting may be beneficial in treating SMARCB1 deficient tumors. Additionally, there are now clinical trials involving EZH2 Inhibitors which may offer benefit for similar patients going forward.This case highlights the difficulty in making a definitive diagnosis, and the importance in identifying a SMARCB1 deficiency as it will affect treatment options and may allow for enrollment in ongoing clinical trials.

Pure nongestational uterine choriocarcinoma in postmenopausal women: a case report with literature review.

Project description:Nongestational choriocarcinoma is rare, especially in postmenopausal women. It may be derived from the transformation of germ cells or dedifferentiation of other tumor tissue cells. It is usually found in the ovaries but rarely in the uterus. Pure nongestational uterine choriocarcinoma in postmenopausal women is exceptional. Thirty-four cases of choriocarcinoma have been found during the past 25 y at the Tianjin Medical University General Hospital. We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of these 34 cases and found only two cases of nongestational uterine choriocarcinoma, both of which were postmenopausal women. We also reviewed 19 other cases previously reported during the past 50 y (from 1970 to 2018) that were identified as uterine choriocarcinoma in postmenopausal women. Analysis of these combined data indicates that nongestational choriocarcinoma is a rare neoplasm in postmenopausal patients. It genetically originates entirely in the patient, and short tandem repeat (STR) analyses are usually required to differentiate gestational and nongestational choriocarcinoma. Although nongestational choriocarcinoma shows some response to chemotherapy, sensitivity is much poorer than that in gestational choriocarcinoma. The prognosis for nongestational choriocarcinoma is poor and the long-term survival rate is low.
