Bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (BMMSCs) exhibit degenerative changes, including imbalanced differentiation and reduced proliferation during aging, that contribute to age-related bone loss. We demonstrate here that autophagy is significantly reduced in aged BMMSCs compared with young BMMSCs.
