ABSTRACT: Lacinutrix venerupis has recently been considered a potential fish pathogen. Here, we report the complete genome sequence of L. venerupis DOK2-8, which possesses several virulence-related genes. This strain may be potentially virulent to other marine organisms, and its genomic information will provide important insights into the biodiversity of the genus Lacinutrix.

Project description:Porphyrobacter dokdonensis strain DSW-74, isolated from seawater off of Dokdo, Republic of Korea, is a member of the family Erythrobacteraceae In this study, the genome sequence of DSW-74 was determined using the Illumina HiSeq 2000 platform and assembled into 11 contigs. Its genome is approximately 3.0 Mb with a G+C content of 64.8%, in which 2,875 protein-coding sequences and 47 RNA genes were predicted.

Complete Genome Sequences of Porcine Parvovirus 2 Isolated from Swine in the Republic of Korea.

Project description:Here, we report sequences of the porcine parvovirus 2 (PPV2) genome, isolated from pigs in the Republic of Korea in 2016. The sequences of open reading frames 1 and 2 (ORF1 and ORF2) had a 98.8 to 98.9% homology with the US135 strain and 98.8% homology with the US523 strain, respectively. This is the first study to report the PPV2 genome in South Korean pigs.

Morphological and Molecular Characterization of Philometroides seriolae from Japanese Amberjack Seriola quinqueradiata caught in East Sea, Republic of Korea.

Project description:The Japanese amberjack Seriolae quinqueradiata is one of the most consumed fish species among the Koreans. However, information regarding parasitic infection in Japanese amberjack is scarce. This study described the morphological and molecular characteristics of a species of philometrid nematode, Philometroides seriolae, which was recovered from Japanese amberjack. This fish was caught in the sea of Goseong-gun, Gangwon-do, Republic of Korea (Korea). Six P. seriolae (Nematoda: Philometridae) were recovered from 2 Japanese amberjacks. These parasites were subgravid female which were 325-420 mm long and 2.95-3.27 mm wide. Furthermore, they had typical papillae distributed on their body surface with 14 papillae at the apical view. Sequence analysis of the small subunits of ribosomal RNA (SSU rRNA) showed high sequence identity (99.8%, 1,607/1,611-bp) with that of P. seriolae (GenBank accession no. FJ155811). This nematode species has been newly added to the Korean nematode fauna.

Complete genome sequencing and comparison of two nitrogen-metabolizing bacteria isolated from Antarctic deep-sea sediment.

Project description:BackgroundBacteria are an essential component of the earth`s biota and affect circulation of matters through their metabolic activity. They also play an important role in the carbon and nitrogen cycle in the deep-sea environment. In this paper, two strains from deep-sea sediments were investigated in order to understand nitrogen cycling involved in the deep-sea environment.ResultsIn this paper, the basic genomic information of two strains was obtained by whole genome sequencing. The Cobetia amphilecti N-80 and Halomonas profundus 13 genome sizes are 4,160,095 bp with a GC content of 62.5% and 5,251,450 bp with a GC content of 54.84%. Through a comparison of functional analyses, we predicted the possible C and N metabolic pathways of the two strains and determined that Halomonas profundus 13 could use more carbon sources than Cobetia amphilecti N-80. The main genes associated with N metabolism in Halomonas profundus 13 are narG, narY, narI, nirS, norB, norC, nosZ, and nirD. On the contrast, nirD, using NH4+ for energy, plays a main role in Cobetia amphilecti N-80. Both of them have the same genes for fixing inorganic carbon: icd, ppc, fdhA, accC, accB, accD, and accA.ConclusionIn this study, the whole genomes of two strains were sequenced to clarify the basic characteristics of their genomes, laying the foundation for further studying nitrogen-metabolizing bacteria. Halomonas profundus 13 can utilize more carbon sources than Cobetia amphilecti N-80, as indicated by API as well as COG and KEGG prediction results. Finally, through the analysis of the nitrification and denitrification abilities as well as the inorganic carbon fixation ability of the two strains, the related genes were identified, and the possible metabolic pathways were predicted. Together, these results provide molecular markers and theoretical support for the mechanisms of inorganic carbon fixation by deep-sea microorganisms.
