First Report of a Complete Genome Sequence of White spot syndrome virus from India.

ABSTRACT: White spot syndrome virus is a major pathogen of shrimp, causing economic loss to the aquaculture industry. For the first time, a complete de novo genome of an Indian isolate of this virus has been deciphered using Illumina and Nanopore sequencing technologies. The genome has 280,591?bp with 442 predicted coding genes.

Complete genome sequence of the shrimp white spot bacilliform virus.

Project description:We report the first complete genome sequence of a marine invertebrate virus. White spot bacilliform virus (WSBV; or white spot syndrome virus) is a major shrimp pathogen with a high mortality rate and a wide host range. Its double-stranded circular DNA genome of 305,107 bp contains 181 open reading frames (ORFs). Nine homologous regions containing 47 repeated minifragments that include direct repeats, atypical inverted repeat sequences, and imperfect palindromes were identified. This is the largest animal virus that has been completely sequenced. Although WSBV is morphologically similar to insect baculovirus, the two viruses are not detectably related at the amino acid level. Rather, some WSBV genes are more homologous to eukaryotic genes than viral genes. In fact, sequence analysis indicates that WSBV differs from all known viruses, although a few genes display a weak homology to herpesvirus genes. Most of the ORFs encode proteins that bear no homology to any known proteins, either suggesting that WSBV represents a novel class of viruses or perhaps implying a significant evolutionary distance between marine and terrestrial viruses. The most unique feature of WSBV is the presence of an intact collagen gene, a gene encoding an extracellular matrix protein of animal cells that has never been found in any viruses. Determination of the genome of WSBV will facilitate a better understanding of the molecular mechanism underlying the pathogenesis of the WSBV virus and will also provide useful information concerning the evolution and divergence of marine and terrestrial animal viruses at the molecular level.

Project description:White spot syndrome virus (WSSV) is a pathogen causing significant economic losses to shrimp aquaculture worldwide. Previously, five genome sequences of the virus from farmed shrimp (Penaeus vannamei and Penaeus monodon) in India were reported, all originating from farms located on the east coast of the country. Here, we report three new and distinct WSSV genome sequences, two from shrimp (P. vannamei) farmed on the west coast of India and the third from the east coast.

Draft Genome Sequence of a White Spot Syndrome Virus Isolate Obtained in Ecuador.

Project description:White spot syndrome virus (WSSV) is the most devastating viral disease affecting cultivated shrimp around the world. Currently, there is no reported genetic information on WSSV affecting Penaeus vannamei in Ecuador. Therefore, we determined the genome of a WSSV isolate from shrimp and compared it with the genomes of isolates from other geographical locations.

The first complete genome sequence of garlic common latent virus occurring in India.

Project description:The complete genome sequence of a garlic common latent virus (GarCLV) isolate collected from NHRDF, Karnal, India was determined. The whole genome of this GarCLV isolate consists of 8573 nucleotides, excluding the 3'-end poly-A tail. The sequence is 91-93% similar to rest of the five whole genome sequences available till date. It contains six open reading frames (ORFs) which encode polypeptide of 219 kDa, 25 kDa, 11 kDa, 7 kDa, 32.74 kDa and 15 kDa from ORF1, ORF2, ORF3, ORF4, ORF5 and ORF6 respectively. The phylogenetic study based on coat protein sequence demonstrated high diversity present among Indian population of GarCLV.
