Survey datasets on women participation in green jobs in the construction industry.

ABSTRACT: The unique qualities of women can make them bearers of solutions towards achieving sustainability and dealing with the dangers attributed to climate change. The attitudinal study utilized a questionnaire instrument to obtain perception of female construction professionals. By using a well-structured questionnaire, data was obtained on women participating in green jobs in the construction Industry. Descriptive statistics is performed on the collected data and presented in tables and mean scores (MS). In addition, inferential statistics of categorical regression was performed on the data to determine the level of influence (beta factor) the identified barriers had on the level of participation in green jobs. Barriers and the socio-economic benefits which can guide policies and actions on attracting, retaining and exploring the capabilities of women in green jobs can be obtained from the survey data when analyzed.

Project description:Work-life conflict can have a detrimental effect on family life, particularly for women who have to work in order to support their families financially. The data set presents the views of 50 female construction professionals in Lagos, Nigeria through a purposive sampling technique with the aid of questionnaire. Categorical Regression was used to assess the effect of work pressure on family expectations. The features of the respondents in terms of profession, years of experience, office location and household characteristics were presented in bar chart. Analysis of the data can provide information on the work experiences of women in the construction industry particularly work load, hours worked per day, work on weekends and work on holidays. The data can also provide insights on the family expectations that are significantly affected by work pressure.

Industry mobility and disability benefits in heavy manual jobs: A cohort study of Swedish construction workers.

Project description:Objectives This study aimed to investigate whether change from the construction industry to work in other industries at age 45-55 years lowered risks of disability benefits (DB) later in life (60-64 years of age). We hypothesized that risks would be lowered the most among those changing from the heaviest occupations. Methods The study included men employed in the construction industry during 1971-1993. We selected workers from the largest occupational groups in heavy (concrete workers and painters) and less heavy (drivers, electricians and foremen) occupations. The occurrence of DB in 1990-2015 was retrieved from national registers. Regression analyses were used to calculate relative risks (RR) of DB at 60-64 years, comparing those working in other industries to those still in the construction industry at the age of 45, 50 and 55 years. Results Shifting out of from the construction industry was related to lowered DB risks at 60-64 years in all selected occupations. Effects were most pronounced among those who, at 55 years of age, worked in an industry other than construction, with significantly reduced RR for DB among concrete workers [RR 0.63, 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.51-0.77], electricians (RR 0.61, 95% CI 0.47-0.77) and foremen (RR 0.78, 95% 0.63-0.96). Conclusions Risks for DB at 60-64 years of age were reduced among those who changed from construction work to other industries. Notable reductions were observed among workers originating from both heavy and less heavy occupations, and future studies should explore other factors, in addition to heavy workload, as motivators for leaving the construction industry.

Mollifying green skepticism: Effective strategies for inspiring green participation in the hospitality industry.

Project description:Environmental awareness is a growing concern for consumers, and effective green messaging strategies are crucial for businesses. This 2 × 2 between-subject experiment investigates the influence of message style and sidedness on consumer participation in green practices and explores the role of message usefulness and skepticism. Our results show that a narrative message style and a two-sided message increase perceived usefulness, reduce skepticism, and lead to greater behavioral intent. Further, the study supports the moderated serial mediation role of message usefulness and skepticism. These findings offer significant implications for businesses seeking to promote sustainable practices and engage consumers in green initiatives.

Green Jobs: Bibliometric Review.

Project description:Among the visible effects as Sustainable Development (SD) transitions from theory into practice, there are Green Jobs (GJs). There are multiple variants in naming this phenomenon in the labor market. Among them are green collars, green employment, and sustainable employment, all indicating a profound inconsistency in the GJ definition. This article aims to identify keyword-specified areas around which the topic of GJs revolves in the scientific literature indexed in the Scopus database. The usage of two methods has achieved this goal. First is the Structured Literature Review (SLR) variation with queries, and it is used to explore the scientific database to determine GJ's definition consistency by the queries syntax. The second method is the search results analysis performed in the Scopus database online to identify the most cited publications and most contributing authors. Then the bibliometric analysis was performed to create bibliometric maps of the most critical keywords in VOSviewer software. The combination of those two approaches allowed this research to indicate the most influential research directions on GJs. The results are presented in graphical forms, and tables with main co-occurring keyword clusters were identified. GJs are a key part of green economy development, where green self-employment and green entrepreneurship play a pivotal role. The presented results can inspire other researchers who are looking for a research gap or describing the state of the art. Politicians and decision-makers can be influenced by the presented contextualization of green job's meaning in the labor market.

Survey datasets on categories of factors militating against safety practices on construction sites.

Project description:The causes of occupational accidents have been classified into unsafe conditions and unsafe behaviour. Interestingly, numerous authors have contributed to the issues of safety practices in managing building production process with different views on factors causing construction accident and insensitiveness to safety practices, but there have been a little efforts to bring together major causes and factors militating against safety practices in unified manners. Therefore, all identified forty nine factors from literature review [1], [2], [3], [4], [5], [6], [7], [8], [9], [9], [11], [12], [13], [14], [15], [16], [17], [18], [19], [20], [21], [22], [23], [24], [25], [26], [27], [28], [29], [30], [31], [32] were brought together and grouped into five different categories. Descriptive statistics were performed on the data to rank these factors as affected workmen on construction sites. The results were presented in figures, text file and tables using Mean Score. The data presented in this study were enable construction managers to standardize project risks assessment and management.

Data survey on public-private professionals role in building control measures within the Nigerian construction industry.

Project description:The data survey focused on building control measures which are critical in attaining sustainable built environment. The data examined the public and private professional׳s performance of building control measures and its barriers in Lagos. The targets consist of sixty (60) construction experts in public and private construction firms operating in Lagos. The sample size was generated from the pool of registered construction professional׳s from private and public construction organizations in Lagos using random sampling technique. Descriptive statistics and inferential tests which include Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney U tests were performed on the dataset generated. The data harvested will avail the construction expert׳s in public and private construction industry on the need for partnership in a bid to enhance building control measures performance in Lagos.

Green Jobs: Definition and Method of Appraisal of Chemical and Biological Risks.

Project description:In the wake of sustainable development, green jobs are developing rapidly, changing the work environment. However a green job is not automatically a safe job. The aim of the study was to define green jobs, and to establish a preliminary risk assessment of chemical substances and biological agents for workers in Quebec. An operational definition was developed, along with criteria and sustainable development principles to discriminate green jobs from regular jobs. The potential toxicity or hazard associated with their chemical and biological exposures was assessed, and the workers' exposure appraised using an expert assessment method. A control banding approach was then used to assess risks for workers in selected green jobs. A double entry model allowed us to set priorities in terms of chemical or biological risk. Among jobs that present the highest risk potential, several are related to waste management. The developed method is flexible and could be adapted to better appraise the risks that workers are facing or to propose control measures.

Bibliometric dataset (1995-2022) on green jobs: A comprehensive analysis of scientific publications.

Project description:The realm of green jobs presents a fertile ground for understanding the intersecting pathways between sustainable transition and the labor market. We have crafted a bibliometric dataset centered on this concept, amassing 414 articles from the Scopus and Web of Science databases, following a laid down protocol, PRISMA, spanning the period from 1995 to 2022. This endeavor aims to depict the dynamics, themes, and conceptual approaches shaping the discourse on green jobs. The dataset, structured around 13 descriptive variables such as authors, keywords, and cited references, is made available to researchers, institutions, and decision-makers to provide insight into the academic debates on ecological transition through the lens of employment, especially in the wake of a green economy. The potential for reutilizing these data is expansive. They can serve as a foundation for comparative analyses with the media and institutional portrayals of green jobs. Furthermore, the dataset can be enriched by integrating other forms of literature, such as books, chapters, or conference proceedings, while retaining the existing structure. This expansibility paves the way for a multidisciplinary and multilingual exploration, thereby enhancing the richness and diversity of possible analyses.

Readiness in implementing green industry standard for SMEs: Case of Indonesia's batik industry.

Project description:Green Industry Standard (GIS) acts as a guideline for industries, including the Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) to preserve the environment and economy in their production process. This study aims to assess the industry's readiness in the case of Indonesia's batik industry, to adopt the GIS and optimize its implementation. The method used in this study is survey and interviews. The survey and interviews involved 25 respondents, comprising owners or managers of the batik industry engaged in handcrafted, stamped, or combined batik production, from pattern-making to finishing stages. The analysis has been done using the Stages of Change Readiness and Treatment Eagerness Scale (SOCRATES) instrument to evaluate the industry's readiness and employing TOWS (Threats, Opportunities, Weaknesses, Strengths) analytical tool to formulate optimization strategies. The results of this study show that an assessment of the batik industries' compliance with Green Industry Standards revealed that they have not yet adopted sustainable practices in their production processes concerning materials, energy, water, products, and waste. The SOCRATES analysis also indicates that the batik industry's readiness to meet the technical requirements of the GIS is currently low. In conclusion, the primary approach in applying green industry principles should focus on rectifying existing weaknesses concerning craftsmen's awareness and understanding of green industry practices. After the industry's awareness emerges, utilizing GIS can boost production, improve raw material efficiency, and provide customers with greater "green" value.

Antecedents of Employee Green Behavior in the Hospitality Industry

Project description:Organizations are increasingly adopting green human resource management policies to encourage environmentally friendly behaviors. Research shows that adopting green policies and procedures is beneficial for the hospitality industry. However, limited empirical evidence exists on the association between environmental-specific ethical leadership, psychological green climate, and employees’ green behavior. Therefore, this study intends to examine psychological green climate (PGC) as a mediator between the relationship of environmental-specific ethical leadership (ESEL) and employees’ green behavior (EGB), specifically in the hotel industry of Pakistan. Data from 224 non-managerial position employees in the understudy sector was collected using a convenient sampling technique. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was utilized to examine the direct and indirect effects among the variables using the Smart PLS 3.3.3 version. This study showed that ESEL is positively related to PGC and EGB. Moreover, PGC is positively associated with EGB, and PGC mediated in the relationship between ESEL and EGB. Thus, current research highlights the significance of environmental-specific ethical leadership behavior, which assists in establishing a green psychological climate, thereby fostering employees’ green behavior in the hotel industry of Pakistan.
