In bacteria, the DnaG primase is responsible for synthesis of short RNA primers used to initiate chain extension by replicative DNA polymerase(s) during chromosomal replication. Among the proteins with which <i>Escherichia coli</i> DnaG interacts is the single-stranded DNA-binding protein, SSB.
