The genus Paleosepharia Laboissiere, 1936 in Taiwan: review and nomenclatural changes (Coleoptera, Chrysomelidae, Galerucinae).

ABSTRACT: Taxonomic study of species of the genus Monolepta Chevrolat, 1836 with subscutellar incised ridges in males and occurring in Taiwan resulted in the transfer of all species to Paleosepharia Laboissière, 1936: P. amiana (Chûjô, 1962), comb. n., P. formosana (Chûjô, 1935), comb. n., P. nantouensis (Kimoto, 1996) comb. n., and P. yasumatsui (Kimoto, 1969), comb. n. The position of M. excavata Chûjô, 1938 in Paleosepharia is confirmed. Lectotypes are designated for M. excavata Chûjô, 1938 and M. formosana Chûjô, 1935. Generic characters of Paleosepharia are re-evaluated in the context of these nomenclatural changes.

Project description:Species within the genus Gallerucida Motschulsky recorded in Taiwan are revised. Gallerucida bifasciata Motschulsky 1861 G. lutea Gressitt & Kimoto 1963 G. sauteri Chûjô 1938 and G. shirozui Kimoto 1969 are redescribed. Sphenoraia chujoi Lee 2014 is proposed as a junior synonym of G. flaviventris (Baly 1861). Gallerucida thoracica (Jacoby 1888) is recorded as new for Taiwan and redescribed. Lectotypes are designated for Gallerucida nigrita Chûjô 1935 G. sauteri Chûjô 1938 and Eustetha thoracica Jacoby 1888. Biological notes are given on all Taiwanese species of Gallerucida.

Revision of the genus Paridea Baly, 1886 from Taiwan (Coleoptera, Chrysomelidae, Galerucinae).

Project description:The Taiwanese species of the genus Paridea Baly, 1886, are revised. Two new species, Paridea (Semacia) houjayi sp. n. and P. (S.) kaoi sp. n. are described. Both were confused previously with P. (S.) sexmaculata (Laboissière, 1930) and P. (S.) angulicollis (Motschulsky, 1854) respectively. Paridea (P.) sauteri (Chûjô, 1935) and P. (P.) taiwana (Chûjô, 1935) are removed from synonymy with P. (P.) sinensis Laboissière, 1930. The synonymy of Paraulaca flavipennis Chûjô, 1935 with Paridea (Paridea) testacea Gressitt & Kimoto, 1963 is supported. Paridea (Semacia) nigrimarginata Yang, 1991 is regarded as a junior synonym of P. (S.) angulicollis and excluded from the Taiwan fauna. Lectotypes are designated for Paraulaca costata Chûjô, 1935, P. flavipennis Chûjô, 1935, P. taiwana Chûjô, 1935, Semacia nipponensis Laboissière, 1930, and Paridea sinensis Laboissière, 1930.

The genus Lochmaea Weise, 1883 in Taiwan: results of taxonomic expeditions by citizen scientists (Coleoptera, Chrysomelidae, Galerucinae).

Project description:More than 520 specimens of the chrysomelid genus Lochmaea were available for study as the result of collecting efforts by citizen scientists. Taiwanese species of Lochmaea can be separated into two species groups based on presence or absence of hind wings. The Lochmaealesagei group (winged) contains L.lesagei Kimoto, 1996 and L.tsoui sp. n. The L.smetanai group (wingless) contains L.smetanai Kimoto, 1996, L.cheni sp. n., and L.jungchani sp. n. Members of the L.smetanai group inhabit alpine microhabitats and are the only wingless galerucines in Taiwan that occur in harsh environments, as is the case with most brachelytrous Chrysomelidae.

Project description:Yunnaniata Lopatin, 2009 is regarded as a junior synonym of Furusawaia Chûjô, 1962 syn. nov. Yunnaniatakonstantinovi Lopatin, 2009 comb. nov. is transferred to the genus Furusawaia Chûjô and redescribed. Furusawaiacontinentalis Lopatin, 2008 and F.yosonis Chûjô are recognized as valid species and redescribed. Four new species are described from Taiwan: F.jungchani sp. nov., F.lui sp. nov., F.tahsiangi sp. nov., and F.tsoui sp. nov. A key to Taiwanese and Chinese species of Furusawaia is provided.

Revision of "Phyllobrotica" from Taiwan with description of Jolibrotica gen. n. (Coleoptera, Chrysomelidae, Galerucinae).

Project description:All Taiwanese species formerly classified the genus Phyllobrotica Chevrolat, 1836 are revised. Jolibrotica Lee & Bezd?k, gen. n., is described for Phyllobrotica sauteri (Chûjô, 1935) (Taiwan, China: Guangxi) and Phyllobrotica chujoi Kimoto, 1969 (Taiwan). Phyllobrotica shirozui Kimoto, 1969 is transferred to the genus Haplosomoides. All species are redescribed and their diagnostic characters illustrated.

Project description:The West Indian flea beetle genus Hemilactica Blake, 1937 is reviewed. Two new species, both from the Dominican Republic are described and illustrated: H. erwini sp. nov. and H. sierramatringarcia sp. nov. In addition, images of the holotypes of H. portoricensis Blake, H. pulchella Blake, and H. rugosa Blake are provided. Lactica megaspila (Blake) is transferred to Hemilactica. A lectotype of H. quatuordecimpunctata (Suffrian, 1868) is designated and illustrated, and a key to the Hemilactica species and a key for identification of Hemilactica and related genera occurring in the Western Hemisphere are provided.

Blakealtica, a new genus of flea beetles (Coleoptera, Chrysomelidae, Galerucinae, Alticini) from the Dominican Republic.

Project description:Blakealtica fusca a new genus and new species from the Dominican Republic is described and illustrated. In addition to external features, beetle thoracic sclerites (including metendosternite) are fully examined and illustrated. Blakealtica is similar to Monomacra Chevrolat,1836 and related genera (Disonycha Chevrolat, 1836, Hemilactica Blake, 1937, Myrmeconycha Konstantinov & Tishechkin, 2017, Parchicola Bechyne & Bechyne, 1975, Pseudodisonycha Blake, 1954, and Rosalactica Bechyne & Bechyne, 1977) as all studied representatives of these genera are missing the sclerotized vaginal palpi or have them membranous and otherwise poorly developed. This feature may be unique for the Monomacra group of genera as it has not been seen anywhere else in flea beetles.
