Impaired capacity to increase heart rate (HR) during exercise (ΔHR<sup>ex</sup>), and a reduced rate of recovery post-exercise (ΔHR<sup>rec</sup>) are associated with higher cardiovascular mortality rates. Currently, the genetic basis of both phenotypes remains to be elucidated.
