To investigate trends in long-noncoding (lnc) RNA research systematically, we compared the contribution of publications among different regions, institutions, and authors. Publications on lncRNA were retrieved from Web of Science (WoS) from 1975 to 2017. A total of 3879 papers were identified, and together they were cited 62967 times. Project description:Several studies have focused on umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stem cells (UC-MSCs) due to their potential therapeutic effects in a cluster of diseases. However, there has been no bibliometric analysis evaluating the evolution in UC-MSC research. Therefore, this study aimed to assess scientific activity regarding UC-MSC research. Publications on UC-MSCs were retrieved from the Science Citation Index-Expanded (SCI-E) of the Web of Science (WoS) from 1975 to 2017. Statistical analyses were performed using Excel, GraphPad Prism 5, and VOSviewer software. Comparative analyses were employed to assess contributions between different countries, institutes, and researchers. With 21.26 citations per paper, 1206 papers cited 25,517 times were included. Mainland China contributed the most with 558 papers, with the most citations (6858 times) and the highest H-index (43). South Korea ranked first for number of papers per million people and per trillion gross domestic product (GDP). Keywords were stratified into two clusters by VOSviewer software: cluster 1, "treatments and effects"; and cluster 2, "characteristics". The average appearing years (AAY) of keywords in cluster 1 was more recent than that in cluster 2. For promising hotspots, "TNF-α" showed the latest AAY at 2014.09, followed by "migration", "angiogenesis", and "apoptosis". We conclude that the number of publications has been continuously growing dramatically since 2002 and that mainland China and South Korea are the most productive regions. The focus gradually shifts from "characteristics" to "treatments and effects". Attention should be drawn to the latest hotspots, such as "TNF-α", "migration", "angiogenesis", and "apoptosis". Furthermore, funding agencies might increase investments in exploring the therapeutic potential of UC-MSCs.

Project description:BackgroundAkkermansia muciniphila is an anaerobic bacterium residing in the healthy intestinal tract of host and its quantity has a negative correlation with various host diseases. This study for the first time provides a holistic bibliometric aspect of Akkermansi muciniphila research in the literature and shows the hot topic terms of these articles in any period of time.MethodsScopus database was selected to retrieve documents relevant to Akkermansia muciniphila in any language up to 2019. The bibliometric profile of Akkermansia muciniphila articles including subject area, year distribution, citations, institutions, journals, authors, and countries was systematically characterized and the collaboration networks of authors and countries as well as the burst detection algorithm of the words in the titles, abstracts and keywords were visualized.ResultsThere is a progressive growing trend in research on Akkermansia from 2004 to 2019 with a total of 566 articles during this period. Out of 353 original articles, there are 194 animal studies (155 studies on mice) and 112 human studies. Also, 65 various diseases were investigated in these studies. The most focused conditions are obesity (71 articles) and type2 diabetes (39 articles). The United States is the leading country on Akkermansia publications (n = 132), followed by China (n = 95). Frontiers in Microbiology is the most dominant journal with 23 Akkermansia publications. In addition, "cancer" is the hot topic of recent Akkermansia research.ConclusionAkkermansia research is of progressive interest during the last decade and the studies on this subject move towards its relationship with cancer and its promising effect on health.

Project description:BackgroundKeloids remain troublesome for clinicians because of the lack of standard therapy, and the underlying mechanisms are still unclear. Bibliometric analysis could be a powerful tool to comprehensively review research trends, evaluate publication performances and provide future perspectives. There is no bibliometric analysis focusing on keloid research.MethodsKeloid related publications were searched in Web of Science Core Collection from the publication year 1990 to 2019. Bibliometric data were provided on document type, annual publication number, most productive journals, publication geography, top potential authors, and highly cited articles. The distribution of single words in article titles was analyzed to evaluate the main research focuses and determine their development trends. Word cluster analysis was further performed to detect emerging trends in keloid research.ResultsThe number of annual articles increased from 24 in 1990 to 63 in 2006 and then increased sharply, reaching 139 in 2019. Dermatologic Surgery published the highest number of articles followed by Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. The USA ranked top with six publication indicators and China had a dramatic increase in the annual number of articles since 2012. Recent research hotspots include underlying pathogenetic mechanisms, keloid treatment, and therapeutic effect evaluation.DiscussionKeloids remain a research focus. Efforts will be continuously made to understand the underlying mechanism of keloid formation. Despite many treatment modalities, there is no gold standard for keloid treatment, and many efforts are being made in the exploration of new therapies. Moreover, it is foreseeable that objective measurement tools will have a higher status in the assessment of keloids and scars.

Project description:Child maltreatment remains a major health threat globally that requires the understanding of socioeconomic and cultural contexts to craft effective interventions. However, little is known about research agendas globally and the development of knowledge-producing networks in this field of study. This study aims to explore the bibliometric overview on child maltreatment publications to understand their growth from 1916 to 2018. Data from the Web of Science Core Collection were collected in May 2018. Only research articles and reviews written in the English language were included, with no restrictions by publication date. We analyzed publication years, number of papers, journals, authors, keywords and countries, and presented the countries collaboration and co-occurrence keywords analysis. From 1916 to 2018, 47,090 papers (53.0% in 2010?2018) were published in 9442 journals. Child Abuse & Neglect (2576 papers; 5.5%); Children and Youth Services Review (1130 papers; 2.4%) and Pediatrics (793 papers, 1.7%) published the most papers. The most common research areas were Psychology (16,049 papers, 34.1%), Family Studies (8225 papers, 17.5%), and Social Work (7367 papers, 15.6%). Among 192 countries with research publications, the most prolific countries were the United States (26,367 papers), England (4676 papers), Canada (3282 papers) and Australia (2664 papers). We identified 17 authors who had more than 60 scientific items. The most cited papers (with at least 600 citations) were published in 29 journals, headed by the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) (7 papers) and the Lancet (5 papers). This overview of global research in child maltreatment indicated an increasing trend in this topic, with the world’s leading centers located in the Western countries led by the United States. We called for interdisciplinary research approaches to evaluating and intervening on child maltreatment, with a focus on low-middle income countries (LMICs) settings and specific contexts.

Project description:ObjectiveWe performed this bibliometric analysis to identify global scientific research on the SARS-CoV-2 vaccines.Materials and methodsThis bibliometric analysis study inclusive search of English-language publications related to the SARS-CoV-2 vaccines was conducted in the Scopus, PubMed, and Dimensions databases without year limitations. The results of bibliometric analysis comprised a time-dependent citation density trend, the name of the journal, journal impact factor (IF), year of publication, type of article, category, subscription or affiliation, co-authorship, and cooccurrence network.ResultsA study of the scientific literature from three databases (Scopus, PubMed, Dimensions) shows that investigators have focused more on studying the structure of the coronavirus at different levels (organismic, cellular, and molecular). In addition, the method of virus penetration into the cell and features of the influence of coronavirus on animals are well-studied. Various methods and strategies are being used to develop the vaccines, including both animal-tested methods and computer models. The Dimensions database is the most representative in terms of coverage of research on development of the SARS-CoV-2 vaccines.ConclusionThis research is a scientific investigation based on bibliometric analysis of papers related to the SARS-CoV-2 vaccines. The Dimensions database provides the most representative research coverage on the creation of a vaccine against coronavirus. It is characterized by a large number of formed verbose terms (length of more than four words) related to coronavirus, which makes it possible to track trends in the development of methods for creating a vaccine.

Project description:Extracellular vesicles (EVs) in the field of spinal cord injury (SCI) have garnered significant attention for their potential applications in diagnosis and therapy. However, no bibliometric assessment has been conducted to evaluate the scientific progress in this area. A search of articles in Web of Science (WoS) from January 1, 1991, to May 1, 2023, yielded 359 papers that were analyzed using various online analysis tools. These articles have been cited 10,842 times with 30.2 times per paper. The number of publications experienced explosive growth starting in 2015. China and the United States led this research initiative. Keywords were divided into 3 clusters, including "Pathophysiology of SCI", "Bioactive components of EVs", and "Therapeutic effects of EVs in SCI". By integrating the average appearing year (AAY) of keywords in VoSviewer with the time zone map of the Citation Explosion in CiteSpace, the focal point of research has undergone a transformative shift. The emphasis has moved away from pathophysiological factors such as "axon", "vesicle", and "glial cell" to more mechanistic and applied domains such as "activation", "pathways", "hydrogels" and "therapy". In conclusions, institutions are expected to allocate more resources towards EVs-loaded hydrogel therapy and the utilization of innovative materials for injury mitigation.

Project description:BackgroundExosomes are small vesicles of endosomal origin, and they can be used for the diagnosis and the treatment. However, limited data were for the evaluation of the trend of exosome researches. This study aims to investigate the trend of exosome researches and compare the contribution of research from different regions, organizations and authors.MethodsExosome related publications from 2007 to 2016 were retrieved from the Web of Science database. Excel, GraphPad Prism 5 and VOSviewer software were used to analyze the research trend.ResultsA total of 1852 papers were identified and were cited 62967 times. The United States accounted for 38.8% of the articles, 42.0% of the citations, and the highest H-index (76). China ranked the second in the number of articles, but the sixth in citation frequency (4337) and the fourth in H-index (36). The journals, PLoS ONE and J Biol Chem had the highest number of publications. The author, Gabrielsson S., has published the most papers in this field (22). The keyword "ribonucleic acid" was mentioned the most at 746 times, and the words, "stem cell", "drug resistance" and "monocyte cell factor" were the latest hotspots appeared around 2015.ConclusionLiterature growth related to exosome is expanding rapidly. The quality of the articles from China still requires improvement. Recent studies focus on the relationship with tumor, and "stem cell", "drug resistance" and "michigan cancer foundation-7" may be the newest topics that should be closely followed in exosome research.

Project description:BackgroundWith the emerging information and communication technology, the field of medical informatics has dramatically evolved in health care and medicine. Thus, it is crucial to explore the global scientific research landscape on medical informatics.ObjectiveThis study aims to present a visual form to clarify the overall scientific research trends of medical informatics in the past decade.MethodsA bibliometric analysis of data retrieved and extracted from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) database was performed to analyze global scientific research trends on medical informatics, including publication year, journals, authors, institutions, countries/regions, references, and keywords, from January 1, 2011, to December 31, 2020.ResultsThe data set recorded 34,742 articles related to medical informatics from WoSCC between 2011 and 2020. The annual global publications increased by 193.86% from 1987 in 2011 to 5839 in 2020. Journal of Medical Internet Research (3600 publications and 63,932 citations) was the most productive and most highly cited journal in the field of medical informatics. David W Bates (99 publications), Harvard University (1161 publications), and the United States (12,927 publications) were the most productive author, institution, and country, respectively. The co-occurrence cluster analysis of high-frequency author keywords formed 4 clusters: (1) artificial intelligence in health care and medicine; (2) mobile health; (3) implementation and evaluation of electronic health records; (4) medical informatics technology application in public health. COVID-19, which ranked third in 2020, was the emerging theme of medical informatics.ConclusionsWe summarize the recent advances in medical informatics in the past decade and shed light on their publication trends, influential journals, global collaboration patterns, basic knowledge, research hotspots, and theme evolution through bibliometric analysis and visualization maps. These findings will accurately and quickly grasp the research trends and provide valuable guidance for future medical informatics research.

Project description:IntroductionHealth research is one mechanism to improve population-level health and should generally match the health needs of populations. However, there have been limited data to assess the trends in national-level cardiovascular research output, even as cardiovascular disease [CVD] has become the leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide.Materials and methodsWe performed a time trends analysis of cardiovascular research publications (1999-2008) downloaded from Web of Knowledge using a iteratively-tested cardiovascular bibliometric filter with >90% precision and recall. We evaluated cardiovascular research publications, five-year running actual citation indices [ACIs], and degree of international collaboration measured through the ratio of the fractional count of addresses from one country against all addresses for each publication.Results and discussionGlobal cardiovascular publication volume increased from 40 661 publications in 1999 to 55 284 publications in 2008, which represents a 36% increase. The proportion of cardiovascular publications from high-income, Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development [OECD] countries declined from 93% to 84% of the total share over the study period. High-income, OECD countries generally had higher fractional counts, which suggest less international collaboration, than lower income countries from 1999-2008. There was an inverse relationship between cardiovascular publications and age-standardized CVD morbidity and mortality rates, but a direct, curvilinear relationship between cardiovascular publications and Human Development Index from 1999-2008.ConclusionsCardiovascular health research output has increased substantially in the past decade, with a greater share of citations being published from low- and middle-income countries. However, low- and middle-income countries with the higher burdens of cardiovascular disease continue to have lower research output than high-income countries, and thus require targeted research investments to improve cardiovascular health.

Project description:BackgroundEsophageal cancer is currently a worldwide health problem. Esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) is the most common pathological type of esophageal cancer, and its treatment methods and therapeutic effects are relatively limited, so it also requires the unremitting efforts of basic and clinical researchers to overcome difficulties. Bibliometric analysis can help sort out global research trends and hotspots, but no bibliometric analysis of ESCC has been reported. Therefore, we performed this study to analyze the global trends and potential hotspots of ESCC to indicate future research directions.MethodsThe articles related to ESCC research were collected from the WoS Core Collection SCI-EXPANDED database from 2012 to 2022. The article information was analyzed by BiblioShiny and VOSviewer. Results were presented as bar and network visualization to describe the current trend of ESCC research. This was a retrospective study evaluating data that is publicly available online and at libraries and institutional review board approval, as such, was not demanded.ResultsThe global publication trend illustrated a strong growth in the ESCC research field (annual growth rate of 11.4%) and the citation trend increased from an average of 2.98 citations per article per year in 2012 to an average of 3.84 citations per article per year in 2019. With the corresponding author's country, China contributed the largest number (5,063 articles). The scholars from China and USA had the most collaboration (427 times). China had the largest number of institutions conducting ESCC research. Oncotarget, Oncology Letters, and Annals of Surgical Oncology published the most articles, while Cancer Research, International Journal of Cancer, and Journal of Clinical Oncology had the most local citations. Furthermore, the clinical research hotspots involved in the treatment of ESCC and the basic research hotspots involved in tumor malignant phenotype have received the most attention in recent years.ConclusionOur study demonstrated that the research of ESCC has developed rapidly in recent years, and the academic institutions in China have played a decisive role in this field. The global research purpose is to find effective therapies against ESCC, so some emerging hotspots related to ESCC treatment, such as endoscopic therapy, chemoradiotherapy, immunotherapy, tumor microenvironment, and the epithelial-mesenchymal transition will receive more attention and develop rapidly in the future.
