Crystal structure of racemic 2-[(β-arabino-pyran-osyl)-sulfanyl]-4,6-diphenylpyridine-3-carbo-nitrile.

ABSTRACT: In the racemic title compound, C₂₃H₂₀N₂O₄S, the sulfur atom is attached equatorially to the sugar ring with unequal S-C bonds, viz.: S-C_s = 1.808 (2) and S-C_p = 1.770 (2) Å (s = sugar, p = pyrid-yl). The dihedral angles between the pyridine ring and its attached phenyl groups are 42.24 (8) and 6.37 (14)°. In the crystal, a system of classical O-H⋯O and O-H⋯(O,O) hydrogen bonds links the mol-ecules to form tube-like assemblies propagating parallel to the c-axis direction. Weak C-H⋯N inter-actions are also observed.

In the crystal, mol-ecules are linked by an inter-molecular bifurcated N-H⋯N hydrogen bond between the cyano N atom and the two amino groups, an N-H⋯N hydrogen bond between the two amino groups and a weak C-H⋯π inter-action, forming a three-dimensional network.

No directional inter-actions beyond typical van der Waals contacts could be identified in the crystal.

Project description:The title compound, C13H4BrF4N, synthesized from 1,4'-bromo-iodo-benzene and 4-bromo-2,3,5,6-tetra-fluoro-benzo-nitrile in a coupling reaction was found to crystallize in the ortho-rhom-bic space group P212121. The two phenyl rings are rotated with respect to each other by 40.6 (6)°. The mol-ecules inter-act via aryl-perfluoroaryl stacking [3.796 (2) and 3.773 (2) Å], resulting in inter-molecular chains along the a-axis direction. C-H⋯F contacts of about 2.45 Å connect these chains. In contrast to the structure of the parent compound 4'-bromo-biphenyl-4-carbo-nitrile, CN⋯Br contacts that could have given rise to a linear arrangement of the biphenyl mol-ecules desirable for non-linear optical (NLO) materials are not observed in the packing. Instead, several Br⋯F [3.2405 (17) and 3.2777 (18) Å] and F⋯F [2.894 (2) Å] contacts of side-on type II form an inter-molecular network of zigzag chains. The crystal studied was refined as an inversion twin.

Project description:The reaction of iron thio-cyanate with 3-cyano-pyridine (C6H4N2) leads to the formation of two compounds with the composition [Fe(NCS)2(C6H4N2)4] (1) and [Fe(NCS)2(C6H4N2)2(H2O)2]·2C6H4N2 (2). The asymmetric unit of 1 consists of one iron cation, two thio-cyanate anions and four 3-cyano-pyridine ligands in general positions. The iron cation is octa-hedrally coordinated by two N-bonded thio-cyanate anions and four 3-cyano-pyridine ligands. The complexes are arranged in columns along the crystallographic c-axis direction and are linked by weak C-H⋯N inter-actions. In 2, the asymmetric unit consists of one iron cation on a center of inversion as well as one thio-cyanate anion, one 3-cyano-pyridine ligand, one water ligand and one 3-cyano-pyridine solvate mol-ecule in general positions. The iron cation is octa-hedrally coordinated by two N-bonded thio-cyanate anions, two cyano-pyridine ligands and two water ligands. O-H⋯N and C-H⋯S hydrogen bonding is observed between the water ligands and the solvent 3-cyano-pyridine mol-ecules. In the crystal structure, alternating layers of the iron complexes and the solvated 3-cyano-pyridine mol-ecules are observed. Powder X-ray (PXRD) investigations reveal that both compounds were obtained as pure phases and from IR spectroscopic measurements conclusions on the coordination mode of the thio-canate anions and the cyano-group were made. Thermogravimetric (TG) and differential thermoanalysis (DTA) of 1 indicate the formation of a compound with the composition {[Fe(NCS)2]3(C6H4N2)4}n that is isotypic to the corresponding Cd compound already reported in the literature. TG/DTA of 2 show several mass losses. The first mass loss corresponds to the removal of the two water ligands leading to the formation of 1, which transforms into {[Fe(NCS)2]3(C6H4N2)4}n, upon further heating.

Project description:The benzo-pyran ring of the title com-pound, C16H11ClN2O2, is planar [maximum deviation = 0.079 (2) Å] and is almost perpendicular to the chloro-phenyl ring [dihedral angle = 86.85 (6)°]. In the crystal, N-H⋯O, O-H⋯N, C-H⋯O and C-H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds form inter- and intra-molecular inter-actions. The DFT/B3LYP/6-311G(d,p) method was used to determine the HOMO-LUMO energy levels. The mol-ecular electrostatic potential surfaces were investigated by Hirshfeld surface analysis and two-dimensional fingerprint plots were used to analyse the inter-molecular inter-actions in the mol-ecule.

Project description:In the title compound, C20H14N2O, the plane of the phenyl ring is almost normal to that of the naphthalene ring system, forming a dihedral angle of 83.15 (8)°. The 4H-pyran ring fused with the naphthalene ring system has a flattened boat conformation. In the crystal, mol-ecules are linked by pairs of N-H⋯N hydrogen bonds, forming inversion dimers with an R 2 (2)(12) ring motif. The dimers are connected by C-H⋯π inter-actions, forming supra-molecular chains along [010].

Project description:In the title compound, C24H17NO2, the carbonyl O atom of the benzoyl group is cis with respect to the furanyl O atom, and the associated O-C-C-O torsion angle is 4.62 (19)°. The puckering of the dihydro-furan ring is close to twisted ((4) T 5), with parameters Q = 0.1856 (16) Å and φ = 313.5 (5)°. Mol-ecules are inter-connected via a C-H⋯N and a C-H⋯O hydrogen bond, leading to layers parallel to the (200) plane and characterized by R 4 (4)(28) and R 4 (4)(36) graph-set motifs. The furan O atom does not participate in inter-molecular hydrogen bonding. The crystal lattice encompasses a solvent-accessible void of 24.7 (8) Å(3).
