Crystal structure of 1-[3,5-bis-(tri-fluoro-meth-yl)phen-yl]-2-bromo-ethan-1-one.

ABSTRACT: The title compound, C₁₀H₅BrF₆O, synthesized via continuous stirring of 3,5-bis-(tri-fluoro-meth-yl) aceto-phenone with bromine in an acidic medium and concentrated under reduced pressure, crystallizes with four mol-ecules in the unit cell (Z = 4) and one formula unit in the asymmetric unit. In the crystal, mol-ecules are linked in a head-to-tail fashion into dimers along the b-axis direction through weak C-H⋯Br and C-O⋯Csp² inter-actions. C-H⋯O, C-F⋯π and F⋯F inter-actions are also observed.

Project description:The mol-ecular structure of the title compound, [Fe(C9H6BrS)(C13H7F6)], consists of a ferrocene backbone with a bis-(tri-fluoro-meth-yl)phenyl group at one cyclo-penta-dienyl ring and a thio-phene heterocycle at the other cyclo-penta-dienyl ring. The latter is disordered over two sets of sites in a 0.6:0.4 ratio. In the crystal structure, intra-molecular π-π inter-actions between the thienyl and the phenyl substituent [centroid-centroid distance 3.695 (4) Å] and additional weak T-shaped π-π inter-actions between the thienyl and the phenyl-substituted cyclo-penta-dienyl ring [4.688 (6) Å] consolidate the crystal packing.

Project description:In the title compounds, C14H9F4NO, (I), C14H9BrF3NO, (II), and C14H9F3INO, (III), the two benzene rings are inclined to one another by 43.94 (8)° in mol-ecule A and 55.66 (7)° in mol-ecule B of compound (I), which crystallizes with two independent mol-ecules in the asymmetric unit, but by only 10.40 (12)° in compound (II) and 12.5 (2)° in compound (III). In the crystals of all three compounds, N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds link the mol-ecules to form chains propagating along the a-axis direction for (I), and along the b-axis direction for (II) and (III). In the crystal of (I), -A-B-A-B- chains are linked by C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, forming layers parallel to (010). Within the layers there are weak offset π-π inter-actions present [inter-centroid distances = 3.868 (1) and 3.855 (1) Å]. In the crystals of (II) and (III), the chains are linked via short halogen-halogen contacts [Br⋯Br = 3.6141 (4) Å in (II) and I⋯I = 3.7797 (5) Å in (III)], resulting in the formation of ribbons propagating along the b-axis direction.

There are two mol-ecules (labeled A and B) in the asymmetric unit. The F atoms of three of the -CF3 groups exhibit rotational disorder over two positions each. The S-S bond distances are 2.0914 (7) and 2.0827 (6) Å for mol-ecules A and B, respectively. The dihedral angle between the S-S-C and S-C-C planes is 103.05 (15)° for mol-ecule A and 104.09 (15)° for mol-ecule B. The three-dimensional supra-molecular architecture of the crystal is sustained by numerous N-H⋯O, N-H⋯S and C-H⋯O inter-actions.

Project description:In the crystal structure of the title compound, C(15)H(9)F(2)NO, the complete mol-ecule is generated by a crystallographic twofold rotation axis and the O and N atoms of the central isoxazole ring are statistically disordered with equal site occupancies. The terminal benzene rings form a dihedral angle of 24.23 (3)° with the isoxazole ring. The dihedral angle between the benzene rings is 47.39 (2)°. No significant inter-molecular inter-actions are observed.

Project description:The title compounds, K(+)·C7H7BF3O(-), (I), and K(+)·C6H4BF4 (-), (II), are mol-ecular salts containing para-substituted phenyl-tri-fluorido-borate anions. In each compound, the B atom adopts a distorted tetra-hedral BCF3 geometry. Despite their different compositions and space groups, the irregular KF8 coordination polyhedra of the potassium cations in the structures are almost identical. These polyhedra share faces and edges, generating infinite (010) layers in (I) and infinite (001) layers in (II). In (I), adjacent layers are stacked in an AAA… fashion, whereas in (II), they are stacked in an ABAB… sequence.
