ABSTRACT: Vibrio parahaemolyticus is a clinically significant marine bacterium implicated in gastroenteritis among consumers of raw or undercooked seafood. This report presents the whole-genome sequence of a unique strain of V. parahaemolyticus isolated from oysters harvested in Canada.

These two sequences might assist in the investigation of differential virulence of this organism.

Genome sequence of temperate Vibrio parahaemolyticus bacteriophage vB_VpaS_MAR10.

Project description:Vibrio parahaemolyticus is recognized as one of the main causes of human gastroenteritis associated with seafood. We have fully sequenced the genome of a newly isolated phage, vB_VpaS_MAR10, which lysed 61.9% of the V. parahaemolyticus strains tested. Phage MAR10 is a temperate siphovirus, and its genome consists of double-stranded DNA (dsDNA) with a size of 78,751 bp, a G+C content of 49.70%, and 104 open reading frames. Bioinformatic analysis shows that phage MAR10 is closely related to Vibrio phage SSP002.

Complete genome sequence of Vibrio parahaemolyticus bacteriophage vB_VpaM_MAR.

Project description:Vibrio parahaemolyticus is a major pathogen that is mainly associated with seafood and is a global food safety issue. Our objective was to isolate and completely sequence a specific phage against this bacterium. Phage vB_VpaM_MAR is able to lyse 76% of the V. parahaemolyticus strains tested. MAR belongs to the Myoviridae family and has a genome comprised of double-stranded DNA with a size of 41,351 bp, a G+C content of 51.3%, and 62 open reading frames (ORFs). Bioinformatic analysis showed that phage MAR is closely related to Vibrio phages VHML, VP58.5, and VP882 and Halomonas aquamarina phage ?HAP-1.

Draft genome sequence of pathogenic bacteria Vibrio parahaemolyticus strain Ba94C2, associated with acute hepatopancreatic necrosis disease isolate from South America.

Project description:Vibrio parahaemolyticus is a pathogenic bacteria which has been associated to the early mortality syndrome (EMS) also known as hepatopancreatic necrosis disease (AHPND) causing high mortality in shrimp farms. Pathogenic strains contain two homologous genes related to insecticidal toxin genes, PirA and PirB, these toxin genes are located on a plasmid contained within the bacteria. Genomic sequences have allowed the finding of two strains with a divergent structure related to the geographic region from where they were found. The isolates from the geographic collection of Southeast Asia and Mexico show variable regions on the plasmid genome, indicating that even though they are not alike they still conserve the toxin genes. In this paper, we report for the first time, a pathogenic V. parahaemolyticus strain in shrimp from South America that showed symptoms of AHPND. The genomic analysis revealed that this strain of V. parahaemolyticus found in South America appears to be more related to the Southeast Asia as compared to the Mexican strains. This finding is of major importance for the shrimp industry, especially in regards to the urgent need for disease control strategies to avoid large EMS outbreaks and economic loss, and to determine its dispersion in South America. The whole-genome shotgun project of V. parahaemolyticus strain Ba94C2 have been deposited at DDBJ/EMBL/GenBank under the accession PRJNA335761.

Genome sequence of the clinical O4:K12 serotype Vibrio parahaemolyticus strain 10329.

Project description:Vibrio parahaemolyticus is the leading cause of food-borne illnesses worldwide. Here, we report a draft genome of V. parahaemolyticus strain 10329 of the O4:K12 serotype. It belongs to the main U.S. West Coast clonal complex of V. parahaemolyticus (sequence type 36 [ST36]) causing oyster-associated human illness. It contains the virulence determinants tdh and trh but appears to infect at much lower doses than V. parahaemolyticus strains with these same determinants from other areas, such as the U.S. Gulf and Atlantic coasts.

Draft Genome Sequence of Vibrio parahaemolyticus V110, Isolated from Shrimp in Hong Kong.

Project description:We report the whole-genome sequence of a tdh- and trh-negative Vibrio parahaemolyticus strain, V110, from shrimp. The major difference of V110 from clinical strains was its lack of the type III secretion system T3SS2, a key component of virulence. Further sequence comparison can shed light on the pathogenesis of V. parahaemolyticus.
