Genome Sequences of Five Lactobacillus sp. Isolates from Traditional Turkish Sourdough.

ABSTRACT: A high level of variation in microflora can be observed in profiles of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) from sourdoughs. Here, we present draft genome sequences of Lactobacillus reuteri E81, L. reuteri LR5A, L. rhamnosus LR2, L. plantarum PFC-311, and the novel Lactobacillus sp. strain PFC-70, isolated from traditional Turkish backslopped wheat sourdoughs.

Draft genome sequences of five recent human uropathogenic Escherichia coli isolates.

Project description:This study reports the release of draft genome sequences of five isolates of uropathogenic Escherichia coli (UPEC), isolated from patients suffering from uncomplicated cystitis in 2012 in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Phylogenetic analyses revealed that these strains belonged to E. coli phylogroups B2 and D and are closely related to known UPEC strains. Comparative genomic analysis revealed that more conserved proteins were shared between these recent isolates and UPEC strains causing cystitis than those causing pyelonephritis. Additional genomic comparisons identified that three isolates encode a type III secretion system (T3SS) and a putative T3SS effector gene cluster along with an invasin-like outer membrane protein. The presence of T3SS genes is a rare occurrence among UPEC strains. These genomes further substantiate the heterogeneity of the gene pool of UPEC and provide a foundation for comparative genomic studies using recent clinical isolates.

Two Rhodococcus fascians strains were obtained from almond rootstocks, and one Rhodococcus kroppenstedtii strain was obtained from a pistachio tree. The fourth Rhodococcus sp. strain was isolated from an ornamental plant.

Project description:The enterococci are low-GC Gram-positive bacteria that have emerged as leading causes of hospital-acquired infection. They are also commensals of the gastrointestinal tract of healthy humans and most other animals with gastrointestinal flora and are important for food fermentations. Here we report the availability of draft genome sequences for 28 enterococcal strains of diverse origin, including the species Enterococcus faecalis, E. faecium, E. casseliflavus, and E. gallinarum.

This pathogen is rarely seen in CF patients. These genomes will be used to better understand chronic carriage of B. pseudomallei in the CF lung and the within-host evolution of longitudinal isolates from these patients.
