Synthesis, crystal structure and Hirshfeld surface analysis of tetra-aqua-bis-(isonicotinamide-?N¹)cobalt(II) succinate.

ABSTRACT: The reaction of CoCl₂ with succinic acid and isonicotinamide in basic solution produces the title complex [Co(C₆H₆N₂O)₂(H₂O)₄](C₄H₄O₄). The cobalt(II) ion of the complex cation and the succinate anion are each located on an inversion centre. The Co^II ion is octa-hedrally coordinated by four O atoms of water mol-ecules and two N atoms of isonicotinamide mol-ecules. The two ions are linked via O_water-H?O_succinate hydrogen bonds, forming chains propagating along [001]. In the crystal, these hydrogen-bonded chains are linked into a three-dimensional framework by further O-H?O hydrogen bonds and N-H?O hydrogen bonds. The framework is reinforced by C-H?O hydrogen bonds. Hirshfeld surface analysis and two-dimensional fingerprint plots have been used to analyse the inter-molecular inter-actions present in the crystal.

Project description:The reaction of cobalt(II) with fumaric acid (H2fum) and isonicotinamide in a basic solution produces the title salt, [Co(C6H6N2O)2(H2O)4](C4H2O4). In the complex cation, the CoII atom, located on an inversion centre, is coordinated by two isonicotinamide and four water mol-ecules in a distorted N2O4 octa-hedral geometry. The fumarate anion is located on another inversion centre and is linked to neighbouring complex cations via O-H⋯O and N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds and weak C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds. In the crystal, the complex cations are further linked by O-H⋯O, N-H⋯O and weak C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, forming a three-dimensional supra-molecular architectecture. Hirshfeld surface analyses (dnorm surfaces and two-dimensional fingerprint plots) for the title compound are presented and discussed.

Project description:The reaction of NiCl2 with fumaric acid and isonicotinamide in a basic solution produces the title complex, [Ni(C6H6N2O)2(H2O)4](C4H2O4). The nickel(II) ion of the complex cation and the fumarate anion are each located on an inversion centre. The NiII ion is coordinated octa-hedrally by four water O atoms and two N atoms of isonicotinamide mol-ecules. The fumarate anion is linked to neighbouring complex cations via Owater-H⋯Ofumarate hydrogen bonds. In the crystal, the complex cations are further linked by O-H⋯O, N-H⋯O and C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, forming a three-dimensional supra-molecular architecture. Hirshfeld surface analysis and two-dimensional fingerprint plots were used to analyse the inter-molecular inter-actions present in the crystal and indicate that the most important contributions for the crystal packing are from H⋯O/O⋯H (41.8%), H⋯H (35.3%) and H⋯C/C⋯H (10.2%) inter-actions.

Project description:The asymmetric unit of the crystal structure of the title complex, [Co(C(6)H(6)N(2)O)(2)(H(2)O)(4)](C(8)H(5)O(3))(2)·2H(2)O, contains one-half of the complex cation with the Co(II) ion located on an inversion center, a 4-formyl-benzoate (FB) counter-anion and an uncoordinated water mol-ecule. The four O atoms in the equatorial plane around the Co(II) ion form a slightly distorted square-planar arrangement with an average Co-O bond length of 2.086 Å; the slightly distorted octa-hedral coordination is completed by the two N atoms of the isonicotinamide (INA) ligands at a slightly longer distance [2.1603 (14) Å] in the axial positions. The dihedral angle between the carboxyl-ate group and the attached benzene ring is 5.93 (13)°, while the pyridine and benzene rings are oriented at a dihedral angle of 3.09 (6)°. In the crystal structure, O-H⋯O, N-H⋯O and C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds link the mol-ecules into a three-dimensional network. π-π Contacts between the benzene and pyridine rings [centroid-centroid distance = 3.758 (1) Å] may further stabilize the crystal structure.

Project description:In the title NiII complex, [Ni(C10H11O2)2(C6H6N2O)2(H2O)2]·2H2O, the divalent Ni ion occupies a crystallographically imposed centre of symmetry and is coordinated by two O atoms from the carboxyl-ate groups of two 2,4,6-tri-methyl-benzoate (TMB) ligands [Ni-O = 2.0438 (12) Å], two N atoms from the pyridyl groups of two isonicotinamide (INA) ligands [Ni-N = 2.1506 (15) Å] and two water mol-ecules [Ni-O = 2.0438 (12) Å] in a slightly distorted octa-hedral geometry. The coordinating water mol-ecules are hydrogen bonded to the non-coordinating carboxyl-ate O atom of the TMB ligand [O⋯O = 2.593 (3) Å], enclosing an S(6) hydrogen-bonding motif. Two solvent water mol-ecules are also present in the formula unit. In the crystal, a network of inter-molecular N-H⋯O and O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds link the complexes into a three-dimensional array. Hirshfeld surface analysis indicates that the most important contributions for the crystal packing are from H⋯H (59.8%), O⋯H/H⋯O (20.2%) and C⋯H/H⋯C (13.7%) inter-actions.

Project description:The asymmetric unit of the title compound, [Co(NCS)2(C6H6N2O)4]·2C6H6N2O·C2H5OH, comprises one Co(II) cation, two thio-cyanate anions, four coordinating and two solvent isonicotinamide molecules and one ethanol solvent mol-ecule. The Co(II) cations are octa-hedrally coordinated by four N-coordinating isonicotinamide ligands and two terminally N-bonded thio-cyanate anions. These discrete complexes are linked by inter-molecular N-H⋯O and N-H⋯S hydrogen-bonding inter-actions into a three-dimensional network. The two isonicotinamide and the ethanol solvent mol-ecules are embedded in channels of this network and are linked through further N-H⋯O and N-H⋯N hydrogen bonds to the network. The ethanol solvent mol-ecule is disordered over two sets of sites (occupancy ratio 0.6:0.4).

Project description:The title compound, [Co(C(12)H(8)N(2))(H(2)O)(4)](2)[Co(H(2)O)(6)](C(11)H(7)O(8))(2)·4H(2)O, was obtanied by the reaction of cobalt acetate with 3,5-bis-(carb-oxy-meth-oxy)benzoic acid and 1,10-phenanthroline. The asymmetric unit contains one tetra-aqua-(1,10-phenanthroline)cobalt(II) cation, one half of a hexa-aqua-cobalt(II) cation that is completed by inversion symmetry, one 3,5-bis-(carboxyl-atometh-oxy)benzoate trianion and two lattice water mol-ecules. The two Co(II) atoms each show a slightly distorted octa-hedral coordination (CoO(6) and CoO(4)N(2)). The cations, anions and lattice water mol-ecules are linked by an intricate network of O-H?O hydrogen bonds into a three-dimensional structure.
