New <i>tris</i>-amidinate actinide (Th, U) complexes containing a rare O-bound terminal phosphaethynolate (OCP <sup><b>-</b></sup> ) ligand were synthesized and fully characterized. The cyanate (OCN <sup><b>-</b></sup> ) and thiocyanate (SCN <sup><b>-</b></sup> ) analogs were prepared for comparison and feature a preferential N-coordination to the actinide metals.
