Poloxamer 188 (P188), a poly(ethylene oxide)- b-poly(propylene oxide)- b-poly(ethylene oxide) triblock copolymer, protects cell membranes against various external stresses, whereas poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO; 8600 g/mol) homopolymer lacks protection efficacy.
