<i>Rhizobium leguminosarum</i> bv. <i>trifolii</i> is a soil bacterium capable of establishing a nitrogen-fixing symbiosis with clover plants (<i>Trifolium</i> spp.). This bacterium secretes large amounts of acidic exopolysaccharide (EPS), which plays an essential role in the symbiotic interaction with the host plant.
