Epidermoid cyst on frenulum of the penis: A case report.

ABSTRACT: Epidermoid cyst in the penis is uncommon and only a small number of cases have been reported. We presented a thirty-two-year-old male patient with a case of slow growing, mobilized, non-tender frenulum of the penis mass that developed in 10 years period. Surgery treatment was taken under local anesthesia. Pathological examination was revealed as epidermoid cyst. Care must be given during examination of these lesions to rule out another entity. If there is any indication, complete excision is the best treatment as another treatment may lead to the risk of recurrence.

Elderly onset intramedullary epidermoid cyst in the conus medullaris: a case report.

Project description:INTRODUCTION: Epidermoid cysts are known as embryonic or acquired ectopic aberrations of the ectoderm. To the best of our knowledge, there are only a few reports of elderly onset intramedullary epidermoid cysts. We report a case of elderly onset intramedullary epidermoid cyst at the conus medullaris. CASE PRESENTATION: A 63-year-old Japanese woman working as a farmer presented with slowly progressive gait disturbance and voiding dysfunction. A magnetic resonance imaging scan revealed an intramedullary mass lesion at L1 to L3. We diagnosed the lesion as an intramedullary spinal cord tumor. A laminectomy was performed at the level of Th12 to L3. Upon spinal cord dissection, a yellowish milky exudation erupted from the cystic lesion. We resected white cartilage-like pieces from the cystic cavity. Because the wall of the cystic lesion tightly adhered to the spinal cord parenchyma, we abandoned complete resection of the cyst wall. The pathological diagnosis was an epidermoid cyst. CONCLUSIONS: We propose that evacuation of the cyst contents is preferable, especially in cases with elderly onset and congenital origin.

Laparoscopic surgery of epidermoid cyst of the falciform ligament: A case report.

Project description:Introduction and importanceThe falciform ligament is a peritoneal fold that extends from the anterior abdominal wall to the liver, which divides the liver into two lobes. Cysts of the falciform ligament are rare and without an apparent cause. The range of the symptoms can vary from abdominal pain to asymptomatic patients. Cysts are treated surgically, and resection is used to make a definitive diagnosis.Case presentationA 36-year-old female patient was treated at an outpatient facility for epigastric pain that lasted for three months. Abdominal MRI and MSCT were performed to verify a cyst formation in the left liver area of about 12 cm in size. Laparoscopic resection of the cist was performed under general endotracheal anaesthesia.Clinical discussionFalciform ligament tumours can be malignant or benign. Treatment of the cyst includes complete excision and pathohistological diagnosis to rule out malignancy. In most cases reported thus far, excision has been done after laparotomy. In our case, the operation was performed in a less invasive way, laparoscopically.ConclusionLaparoscopy can serve as a diagnostic and therapeutic method for cysts of the falciform ligament, both smaller and more significant, that infiltrate the surrounding structures.

Abrupt elevation of tumor marker levels in a huge splenic epidermoid cyst, a case report.

Project description:Epidermoid cyst of the spleen is a rare disease, and relatively few cases were reported by literatures. Most published case reports provided inadequate information on the impact of splenic epidermoid cyst on tumor markers. A 32-year-old woman with a giant splenic epidermoid cyst was reported, for whom the serum concentration of a collection of tumor markers (CA19-9, CEA, CA125, CA242, and CA50) increased abruptly accompanied by left upper abdominal pain for 5 days. After comprehensive preoperative examination and multidisciplinary team discussion, we ruled out any concurrent malignancy and a laparoscopic total splenectomy was performed, during which the splenic cyst spontaneously ruptured unexpectedly. After surgery, the elevated serum tumor marker levels decreased sharply until reaching normal range 3 months later. Learning from the case, we conclude that interval monitoring of serum tumor markers is of critical value for patients with splenic epidermoid cyst. Abrupt elevation of tumor marker levels and abdominal pain may serve as signs of cyst rupture, which is strongly indicative of surgical intervention as soon as possible. Total removal of the splenic cyst is strongly suggested considering the recurrence and malignant potential of the splenic epidermoid cyst.

Testicular epidermoid cyst: A rare case.

Project description:Testicular epidermoid cysts are a rare cause of testicular pathology. No cases of recurrence or metastasis have been reported in the literature. As a result, inguinal partial orchiectomy with frozen section has recently become standard treatment. A 43-year-old male presented with right testicular discomfort and the presence of mass. Right inguinal partial orchiectomy with frozen section was performed, and the right testicle was preserved. The final pathology report confirmed the diagnosis of an epidermoid cyst. The importance of accurate diagnosis of this benign lesion is crucial for the prevention of unnecessary radical orchiectomy.

Endoscopic endonasal resection of an epidermoid cyst in the cavernous sinus: A case report and literature review

Project description:Background Epidermoid cysts of cavernous sinus (CS) are rare congenital neoplasms of the central nervous system. In previous literature reports, the treatment for CS epidermoid cysts was mainly microsurgical resection, and the surgical methods included simple microsurgery and endoscope-assisted microsurgery. The present case report demonstrates the first case of complete resection of a CS epidermoid cyst by a simple endoscopic endonasal transcavernous (EET) approach. Case presentation A 54-year-old woman presented with chronic persistent headaches and occasional syncope. Brain MRI demonstrated a space-occupying lesion of the left CS, and digital substruction angiography (DSA) showed a small aneurysm at the beginning of the left ophthalmic artery. Thrombotic therapy of carotid–ophthalmic aneurysms was performed first, and the patient underwent resection of the CS lesion secondary. Considering the location of the lesion and the neuroendoscopy technology and experience of the doctor, we made bold innovations and used an EET approach to achieve complete resection of the lesion. The postoperative pathological results were consistent with the characteristics of epidermoid cyst. During the 1-year follow up, the patient showed no apparent signs of recurrence on head MRI. Conclusion Epidermoid cyst of cavernous sinus is a rare benign occupying lesion in cavernous sinus. Reviewing the previous literature, the main treatment is microneurosurgery, and neuroendoscopy is only used as an auxiliary equipment. We present the first case of complete endoscopic resection of CS epidermoid cyst by EET approach according to CARE guidelines, aiming to share the new surgical plan for CS epidermoid cyst and provide more surgical options for this disease for neurosurgery colleagues.

[Fourth ventricule epidermoid cyst: about a case].

Project description:Epidermoid cysts are rare benign tumors developed by ectodermic inclusions. They are usually located at the level of the pontocerebellar angle, the parasellar region and the temporal fossa. They exceptionally develop at the level of the fourth ventricle We report the case of a 47-year old woman admitted for intracranial hypertension syndrome associated with walking disorders. The diagnosis of fourth ventricle epidermoid cyst was evoked based on diffusion MRI data then confirmed intraoperatively and by histologic examination. Subtotal surgical excision was performed due to capsule adhesion to the upper part of the V4 floor. After a 36-month follow-up, the patient showed no signs of tumor recurrence.

Complete duplication of the penis - A case report.

Project description:Penile duplication is a very rare urological entity. It may be associated with other congenital conditions such as urogenital, GI tract and musculoskeletal anomalies. Properly classifying the condition may dictate the final treatment options. Our current case is the complete true duplication in which we performed side-to-side urethra-urethral anastomosis. We spared the posterior urethra as it may end up with postoperative urinary incontinence.

Case Report: Primary Ewing Sarcoma of the Penis.

Project description:BackgroundEwing sarcoma is a malignancy that commonly affects the skeletal system and primary extraskeletal involvement is rare. Extraskeletal Ewing sarcoma (EES) arises in soft tissue anywhere in the body. These are very rarely seen aggressive tumours. There have been only 7 reported cases of EES of penis.Case presentationWe report a 22-year-young patient who presented to our hospital with a ulcero-proliferative growth in the shaft of penis. There were no other complaints indicating any metastasis. Incisional biopsy was suggestive of invasive malignancy. He was scheduled for a partial penectomy. Final HPE and IHC were suggestive of EES.ConclusionEES as a subtype of Ewing sarcoma is rare and it can occur in any soft tissue site. Hence, clinicians need to differentiate this entity from other soft tissue sarcomas. Early diagnosis and timely treatment of EES are pivotal for a favourable prognosis due to its aggressive nature.Supplementary informationThe online version contains supplementary material available at 10.1007/s13193-023-01793-x.

Spinal Epidermoid Tumors: Case Report and Review of the Literature.

Project description:Spinal epidermoid tumors are rare, benign tumors that are either acquired from trauma, surgery, or lumbar puncture or arise as congenital lesions, particularly spinal dysraphisms. We report a case of a massive spinal epidermoid tumor and review the literature with a focus on the surgical outcomes. A 71-year-old female patient presented after a fall with subsequent symptoms of severe back and hip pain, as well as loss of motor strength in the left leg. Her magnetic resonance imaging demonstrated a T2/short tau inversion recovery hyperintense mass extending from the level of the T10-11 disc caudally through S2. A biopsy was recommended to determine whether the tumor was radio- or chemo-sensitive. The patient underwent a L4 laminectomy and a pearly-white tumor was encountered, with a subsequent biopsy confirming it to be an epidermoid tumor. The following conclusions can be drawn from a review of the literature. Spinal epidermoid tumors are more common in women and tend to present in younger patients (median age of 23). The majority of patients had acquired lesions (46%). In terms of surgical outcomes for adherent tumors, gross total resection was found to provide optimal outcomes, with 90% of patients improving clinically after surgery.

Giant Retrorectal Epidermoid Cyst Masquerading as a Perianal Swelling.

Project description:A retrorectal epidermoid cyst is an uncommon congenital lesion that arises from the remnants of the embryonic tissues. This type of cyst is difficult to diagnose before surgery. In this study, we report a rare case of a giant retrorectal epidermoid cyst in a 30-year-old woman. Initially, the condition was diagnosed as a perianal abscess and treated with incision and drainage. Since the abscess recurred, a pelvic magnetic resonance imaging was ordered, which revealed an 8.2?cm perianal cyst with appearance not compatible with an abscess. Postsurgical histologic analysis confirmed a retrorectal epidermoid cyst. Postoperative course was uneventful, and the woman was discharged on postoperative day 3. She was doing well at 4 months of follow-up. This report suggests that retrorectal cysts should be considered in cases of recurrent perianal swellings/abscesses.
