Mushrooms with a thin-fleshed pileus that becomes plicate on opening, deliquescent lamellae and dark brown to blackish basidiospores are commonly called coprinoid mushrooms. The genus <i>Coprinellus</i> is one of the important lineages of coprinoid mushroom in the family Psathyrellaceae.
