<i>Maize dwarf mosaic virus</i> (MDMV) is a serious maize pathogen, epidemic worldwide, and one of the most common virus diseases for monocotyledonous plants, causing up to 70% loss in corn yield globally since 1960. MDMV belongs to the genus Potyvirus (<i>Potyviridae</i>) and was first identified in 1964 in Illinois in corn and Johnsongrass.
