Draft Genome Sequence of Bacillus subtilis Strain FB6-3, Isolated from Fermented Bamboo Shoot.

ABSTRACT: Here, we report the draft genome sequence of Bacillus subtilis strain FB6-3, isolated from fermented bamboo shoot samples (Soibum) from Manipur, India. The genome was constructed to facilitate studies in evolution of the genetic code. The de novo assembly resulted in a chromosome size of 4,192,717?bp and 3,885 coding sequences.

Draft genome sequence data of Bacillus subtilis strain 9407, isolated from healthy apples in China.

Project description:Bacillus subtilis strain 9407 is an endophyte which was isolated from healthy apples from an infested orchard that exhibits strong inhibitory activity against Botryosphaeria dothidea. Whole-genome sequencing of B. subtilis 9407 was performed using the Illumina Hiseq platforms. Here, we report the draft genome sequence of B. subtilis strain 9407 containing 16 scaffolds (4,062,615 bp), 4033 coding sequences, and an average 43.66% G + C content. The genome contains genes responsible for the production of several bioactive secondary metabolites, including the lipopeptides fengycin and surfactin. The genome information will provide fundamental knowledge of the organism. This whole-genome shotgun data has been deposited at DDBJ/EMBL/GenBank under the accession numbers PISO00000000.

Project description:In this paper, we report Bacillus subtilis TLO3, which was isolated from olive tree rhizosphere and exhibits high amylolytic activity. The genome of Bacillus subtilis TLO3 contains 4,071 protein-coding sequences carried on one chromosome (4,232,155?bp) with an average G+C content of 44.1% and 119 RNA molecules. The gene encoding ?-amylase was detected, as well as other genes related to starch and cellulose hydrolysis, making the strain a potential candidate for industrial treatment of starch and lignocellulose biomasses.

Novel Exopolysaccharide Produced from Fermented Bamboo Shoot-Isolated Lactobacillus Fermentum.

Project description:This study aimed at providing a route towards the production of a novel exopolysaccharide (EPS) from fermented bamboo shoot-isolated Lactobacillus fermentum. A lactic acid bacteria strain, with high EPS production ability, was isolated from fermented bamboo shoots. This strain, R-49757, was identified in the BCCM/LMG Bacteria Collection, Ghent University, Belgium by the phenylalanyl-tRNA synthetase gene sequencing method, and it was named Lb. fermentum MC3. The molecular mass of the EPS measured via gel permeation chromatography was found to be 9.85 × 104 Da. Moreover, the monosaccharide composition in the EPS was analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. Consequently, the EPS was discovered to be a heteropolysaccharide with the appearance of two main sugars-D-glucose and D-mannose-in the backbone. The results of one-dimensional (1D) and two-dimensional (2D) nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy analyses prove the repeating unit of this polysaccharide to be [?6)-?-D-Glcp-(1?3)-?-D-Manp-(1?6)-?-D-Glcp-(1?]n, which appears to be a new EPS. The obtained results open up an avenue for the production of novel EPSs for biomedical applications.
