Subchondral lesions are the result of osseous modifications seen in a different array of pathologies such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, calcium pyrophosphate deposition, and osteonecrosis. The physiopathologic changes in all of the aforementioned pathologies are not clear yet.
