Pea, one of the founder crops from the Near East, has two wild species: <i>Pisum sativum</i> subsp. <i>elatius</i>, with a wide distribution centered in the Mediterranean, and <i>P. fulvum,</i> which is restricted to Syria, Lebanon, Israel, Palestine and Jordan.
