Phenolic and lignan glycosides from the butanol extract of Averrhoa carambola L. root.

ABSTRACT: Fifteen compounds, which included six chiral lignans and nine phenolic glycosides, were separated from the butanol fraction of Averrhoa carambola L. root and identified. All of the compounds, namely 3,4,5-trimethoxyphenol-1-O-?-D-glucopyranoside, benzyl-1-O-?-D-glucopyranoside, (+)-5'-methoxyisolariciresinol 3?-O-?-D-gluco-pyranoside, (+)-isolariciresinol 3?-O-?-D-glucopyranoside, koaburaside, (+)-lyoniresinol 3?-O-?-D-glucopyranoside, (-)-lyoniresinol 3?-O-?-D-glucopyranoside, (-)-5'-methoxyisolariciresinol 3?-O-?-D-glucopyranoside, (-)-isolariciresinol 3?-O-?-D-glucopyranoside, 3,5-dimethoxy-4-hydroxyphenyl 1-O-?-apiofuranosyl (1''?6')-O-?-D-glucopyranoside, 3,4,5-trimethoxyphenyl 1-O-?-apiofuranosyl (1''?6')-?-gluco-pyranoside, methoxyhydroquinone-4-?-D-glucopyranoside, (2S)-2-O-?-D-gluco-pyranosyl-2-hydroxyphenylacetic acid, 3-hydroxy-4-methoxyphenol 1-O-?-D-apio-furanosyl-(1''?6')-O-?-D-glucopyranoside and 4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenol 1-O-?-D-apiofuranosyl-(1''?6')-O-?-D-glucopyranoside were isolated from this plant for the first time.
