Draft Genome Sequence of NRRL 5109, an Ex-Type Isolate of Aspergillus neoellipticus.

ABSTRACT: We report here a draft genome sequence of an ex-type strain of Aspergillus neoellipticus, NRRL 5109, which was isolated from pus of a case of chronic emphysema. The final assembly consists of 160 scaffolds totaling 27.55 Mbp (G+C content, 49.96%) and 8,858 predicted genes.

Project description:Wickerhamomyces ciferrii is a microorganism characterized by the production and secretion of large amounts of acetylated sphingoid bases, in particular tetraacetyl phytosphingosine. Here, we present the 15.90-Mbp draft genome sequence of W. ciferrii NRRL Y-1031 F-60-10 generated by pyrosequencing and de novo assembly. The draft genome sequence comprising 364 contigs in 150 scaffolds was annotated and covered 6,702 protein-coding sequences. This information will contribute to the metabolic engineering of this yeast to improve the yield and spectrum of acetylated sphingoid bases in biotechnological production.

Draft genome sequence of Aspergillus flavus isolate TERIBR1, a highly tolerant fungus to chromium stress.

Project description:ObjectivesAspergillus flavus isolate TERIBR1 was isolated from tannery sludge highly contaminated with chromium. During characterization process, it exhibited capability to adapt and grow in fungal growth media amended with chromium concentration as high as 250 mg/l. In order to understand the genetic underpinnings of the chromium tolerance trait, whole genome sequencing of the TERIBR1 genome was carried out. Information from the current genome will facilitate an understanding of the mechanisms underlying fungal adaptation to heavy metal stress and also heavy metal bioremediation.Data descriptionHere, we report the draft genome sequence along with the assembly and annotation methods used for genome sequence of the A. flavus isolate TERIBR1. The draft genome assembly size is estimated at 37.7 Mb coding for 13,587 genes and has high similarity to the reference genome of A. flavus strain NRRL3357.

Chromosome assembled and annotated genome sequence of Aspergillus flavus NRRL 3357.

Project description:Aspergillus flavus is an opportunistic pathogen of crops, including peanuts and maize, and is the second leading cause of aspergillosis in immunocompromised patients. A. flavus is also a major producer of the mycotoxin, aflatoxin, a potent carcinogen, which results in significant crop losses annually. The A. flavus isolate NRRL 3357 was originally isolated from peanut and has been used as a model organism for understanding the regulation and production of secondary metabolites, such as aflatoxin. A draft genome of NRRL 3357 was previously constructed, enabling the development of molecular tools and for understanding population biology of this particular species. Here, we describe an updated, near complete, telomere-to-telomere assembly and re-annotation of the eight chromosomes of A. flavus NRRL 3357 genome, accomplished via long-read PacBio and Oxford Nanopore technologies combined with Illumina short-read sequencing. A total of 13,715 protein-coding genes were predicted. Using RNA-seq data, a significant improvement was achieved in predicted 5' and 3' untranslated regions, which were incorporated into the new gene models.
