Hotel booking demand datasets.

ABSTRACT: This data article describes two datasets with hotel demand data. One of the hotels (H1) is a resort hotel and the other is a city hotel (H2). Both datasets share the same structure, with 31 variables describing the 40,060 observations of H1 and 79,330 observations of H2. Each observation represents a hotel booking. Both datasets comprehend bookings due to arrive between the 1st of July of 2015 and the 31st of August 2017, including bookings that effectively arrived and bookings that were canceled. Since this is hotel real data, all data elements pertaining hotel or costumer identification were deleted. Due to the scarcity of real business data for scientific and educational purposes, these datasets can have an important role for research and education in revenue management, machine learning, or data mining, as well as in other fields.

The data includes: 1) the input parameters (production yield, demand, and costs) collected through comprehensive review of the literature and diversified further to enrich the analytical results, and 2) results from mathematical modeling and analysis on the optimal procurement and semi-processed material allocation decisions for different parameter sets. The dataset is particularly constructed for a production system with two stages and three final products.

Tourist willingness to pay for local green hotel certification.

Project description:This study aims to understand tourists' willingness to pay a price premium for a local green hotel certification, and is one of only a few in the literature for small-island tourism destinations in emerging economies with their unique and pressing sustainability challenges. In a survey of 535 tourists visiting Gili Trawangan, Indonesia, facing numerous waste management and coral reef conservation issues, the willingness to pay extra for sustainable hotel services was elicited. There were five discrete pricing levels across the surveys that ranged from $0.75 USD to $7.50 USD extra per night. We examined the relationship of the respondents' payment choice to their socio-demographic attributes and attitudes regarding environmental issues such as climate change. The main findings and practical implications of the study are: (1) to demonstrate the broad willingness to pay for sustainable hotel services. Findings indicate at all price levels (between $0.75 USD and $7.50 USD), more than 50% of tourists are willing to pay. (2) To estimate a lower bound mean willingness to pay per night for a local green hotel certificate of $1.55USD and 1.34€ EUR, and (3) To identify individual attributes that influence willingness to pay. Findings indicate environmental knowledge and preferences play a role. These results can be used generally to incorporate evidence-based practices into the development of a green hotel marketing strategy, and to help define the target market for small-scale green hotel certification. Additionally, we propose a finance strategy for funding local and sustainable initiatives that support the hotel industry and the island's infrastructure through the premiums collected from the 'Gili Green Award' certificate.

Near- and medium-term hourly morphed mean and extreme future temperature datasets for Jyvaskyla, Finland, for building thermal energy demand simulations.

Project description:Near- and medium-term hourly morphed outdoor temperature files were created for Jyväskylä, Finland, to be used in building energy simulation. These future outdoor temperature files were created according to a statistical down-scaling method, morphing, which utilizes both hourly baseline data, and monthly and daily future climate projections. The used baseline data included hourly test reference year and typical meteorological year data to represent a "typical" climate year, and were appended with weather files created based on the coldest and warmest near Januaries to represent extreme weather files. Climate change data included climate change projection data from 2 different data repositories for either results from Global Climate Model or Regional Climate Model simulations for RCP2.6, RCP4.5 and RCP8.5 climate change scenarios. Morphing all 5 different baseline scenarios with each of the available climate scenarios creates 25 future outdoor temperature files for 2030 (near-term) and 25 files for 2050 (medium-term). The created files were used in [1] to simulate future thermal energy demand in buildings.

This dataset is made publicly available to show energy performance of selected hotel design alternatives, in order to enable extended analyzes of these data for other researchers.

Hotel Revenue Convergence: Evidence Across Star Hotels in Chinese Provinces.

Project description:This paper analyses, for the first time, potential convergence patterns of hotel revenues across provinces in China. Through the club clustering methodology, the analysis uses a unique dataset of all hotels across all Chinese provinces. The findings document that these hotel revenues follow a diverging pattern on a national level, while a converging pattern is identified across certain provinces, thus forming specific clubs. When the analysis is extended to identify potential drivers for such diverging or converging behavior, the new results illustrate the role of productivity trends, management strategies and tax policies as those factors that drive such patterns. The results could be of substantial value, primarily for tourism policymakers to further improve the current framework of the Chinese hotel industry to introduce practices and policies that will allow the industry to catch up with the global market.Supplementary informationThe online version contains supplementary material available at 10.1007/s11293-022-09745-6.

The treatment of booking gestational diabetes mellitus (TOBOGM) pilot randomised controlled trial.

Project description:BACKGROUND:We piloted a randomised controlled trial (RCT) comparing pregnancy outcomes among women with booking gestational diabetes (GDM) receiving immediate or deferred treatment. METHODS:Consecutive, consenting women <?20 weeks gestation, with GDM risk factors attending the hospital book-in clinic, completed an oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT). Clinicians were blinded to OGTT results. Women fulfilling World Health Organisation GDM criteria were randomised to either clinic referral /ongoing treatment (Treated Group n =?11), or no treatment (No Treatment Group n =?10). Women without 'Booking GDM' ('Decoys' n =?58) and those in the No Treatment Group had a repeat OGTT at 24-28 weeks (with GDM treated if diagnosed). Midwives and mothers were asked to complete surveys and attend focus groups before and after the study respectively regarding their experiences and expectations of the study protocol. RESULTS:Sufficient women completed each step of the RCT. Gestation at OGTT was late at 18?±?2 weeks with Treated and No Treatment groups largely similar. At 24-28 weeks gestation, GDM was present in 8/9 (89%) in the No Treatment group and 11/56 (20%) Decoys. NICU admission was highest in the Treated group (36% vs 0% p =?0.043), largely due to small for gestational age, and Large for Gestational Age babies greatest in the No Treatment group (0% vs 33% p =?0.030). CONCLUSION:An RCT deferring 'Booking GDM' treatment is feasible. Most women with untreated 'Booking GDM' in mid 2nd trimester had GDM at 24-28 weeks. Early treatment may have both benefits and harms. Genomic Investigation of a Legionellosis Outbreak in a Persistently Colonized Hotel.

Project description:OBJECTIVES:A long-lasting legionellosis outbreak was reported between November 2011 and July 2012 in a hotel in Calpe (Spain) affecting 44 patients including six deaths. Intensive epidemiological and microbiological investigations were performed in order to detect the reservoirs. METHODS:Clinical and environmental samples were tested for the presence and genetic characterization of Legionella pneumophila. Six of the isolates were subjected to whole-genome sequencing. RESULTS:Sequencing of 14 clinical and 260 environmental samples revealed sequence type (ST) 23 as the main responsible strain for the infections. This ST was found in the spa pool, from where it spread to other hotel public spaces, explaining the ST23 clinical cases, including guests who had not visited the spa. Uncultured clinical specimens showed profiles compatible with ST23, ST578, and mixed patterns. Profiles compatible with ST578 were obtained by direct sequencing from biofilm samples collected from the domestic water system, which provided evidence for the source of infection for non ST23 patients. Whole genome data from five ST23 strains and the identification of different STs and Legionella species showed that different hotel premises were likely colonized since the hotel opening thus explaining how different patients had been infected by distinct STs. CONCLUSIONS:Both epidemiological and molecular data are essential in the investigation of legionellosis outbreaks. Whole-genome sequencing data revealed significant intra-ST variability and allowed to make further inference on the short-term evolution of a local colonization of L. pneumophila.

Booking patients for hospital admissions: evaluation of a pilot programme for day cases.

Project description:NHS patients requiring elective surgery usually have to wait before being treated and are usually told when a date becomes available.18 month pilot programme to enable day case patients to book date of hospital admission at time of decision to operate.24 pilot sites in England with relatively short waiting times and some experience of booking appointments.Proportion of patients with booked or "to come in" date during and after pilot programme, proportion not attending for admission, and proportion waiting > or = 6 months. Comparison of pilot sites with non-pilot sites.National Patients' Access Team established to help pilot sites enable patients to book admission dates. Provision of 9.9m pounds sterling to pilot sites to employ project managers, purchase equipment, buy extra time from clinical and other staff, and invest in information and communications technology.Proportion of patients with booked or "to come in" date increased from 51.1% to 72.7% between end of March 1999 and end of March 2000, and then fell to 66.2% by end of March 2001. Over the same periods, the proportion of patients waiting > or = 6 months fell from 10.9% to 10.5% and then increased to 11.9%. The proportion of patients failing to attend fell from 5.7% to 3.1% between the first quarter of 1999 and the first quarter of 2000, and then increased to 4.0% in the first quarter of 2001. Pilot sites varied widely in performance during and after the pilot phase. Pilot sites had higher proportions of patients with booked or "to come in" date than non-pilot sites at end of each period.Increasing the proportion of patients who book their date of hospital admission is possible, but there are difficulties in sustaining this. Several factors facilitated or hindered the implementation of booking, and the roll out of the programme across the NHS is seeking to incorporate these factors.
