Peroxisomes are ubiquitous membrane-enclosed organelles involved in lipid processing and reactive oxygen detoxification. Mutations in human peroxisome biogenesis genes (<i>Peroxin</i>, <i>PEX</i>, or <i>Pex</i>) cause developmental disabilities and often early death.
