ABSTRACT: Streptomyces spongiicola strain 531S (NBRC 113560) was isolated from marine sediment on a beach on Sesoko Island (Okinawa, Japan). We report here the draft genome sequence of S. spongiicola 531S, in which 24 potential secondary metabolite gene clusters were predicted with antiSMASH.

We present the draft genome sequence of Streptomyces sp. strain C8S0, which was isolated from a highly oligotrophic sediment from the Cuatro Cienegas Basin (Mexico). The whole-genome assembly comprised 6,898,902 bp, with 18 biosynthetic gene clusters, including those for nonconventional terpenes, nonribosomal peptides, and polyketides.

Project description:Streptomyces, a branch of aerobic Gram-positive bacteria, represents the largest genus of actinobacteria. The streptomycetes are characterized by a complex secondary metabolism and produce over two-thirds of the clinically used natural antibiotics today. Here we report the draft genome sequence of a Streptomyces strain, PP-C42, isolated from the marine environment. A subset of unique genes and gene clusters for diverse secondary metabolites as well as antimicrobial peptides could be identified from the genome, showing great promise as a source for novel bioactive compounds.

The genome sequence of strain NS58 was nearly identical (>99.99%) to those of other strains of N. oceani isolated from different ocean regions. Only nine single-nucleotide polymorphisms were identified between N. oceani ATCC 19707T and NS58.
