Directional Deep Brain Stimulation.


ABSTRACT: Over the last years, deep brain stimulation has seen many technological innovations. New electrode designs allowing to direct the current flow not only in the vertical but also in the horizontal plane are the most recent. We summarize the concept of "directional deep brain stimulation" with its opportunities and challenges and the available study data and discuss the use of imaging techniques to assist programming deep brain stimulation devices.
