Microbes have been critical drivers of evolutionary innovation in animals. To understand the processes that influence the origin of specialized symbiotic organs, we report the sequencing and analysis of the genome of <i>Euprymna scolopes</i>, a model cephalopod with richly characterized host-microbe interactions.
