Pathogenic bacteria must rapidly adapt to ever-changing environmental signals resulting in metabolism remodeling. The carbon catabolite repression, mediated by the catabolite control protein A (CcpA), is used to express genes involved in utilization and metabolism of the preferred carbon source.
