The human opportunistic pathogen Pseudomonas aeruginosa strain PA14 infects both plants and animals. Previously, using plants to screen directly for P. aeruginosa virulence-attenuated mutants, we identified a locus, pho34B12, relevant in mammalian pathogenesis.
