Levodopa (LD) is the most effective drug in the treatment of Parkinson's disease (PD). However, although it represents the "gold standard" of PD therapy, LD can cause side effects, including gastrointestinal and cardiovascular symptoms as well as transient elevated liver enzyme levels.
