Nitrogen pollution and global eutrophication are predicted to increase nitrous oxide (N<sub>2</sub>O) emissions from freshwater ecosystems. Surface waters within agricultural landscapes experience the full impact of these pressures and can contribute substantially to total landscape N<sub>2</sub>O emissions.
