Genetic determinants of low vitamin B12 levels in Alzheimer's disease risk.

ABSTRACT: Introduction:There is observational evidence that low circulating levels of vitamin B12 are associated with an increased risk of Alzheimer's disease. Methods:We used a two-sample summary-statistics-based Mendelian randomization design to assess the relationship of genetic factors contributing to vitamin B12 with late-onset Alzheimer's disease risk. Results:Our results do not support a causal role of decreased vitamin B12 levels on Alzheimer's disease risk. Discussion:This work encourages research on other modifiable biomarkers for Alzheimer's disease risk.
