An interspaced repeat sequence (IRS) is a unique sequence similar to prokaryotic CRISPR in structure. In this study, 1343 IRSs were identified in the Arabidopsis genome. Functional annotation of the IRS-related genes showed that they were associated with various growth and development processes. More than 30% of the IRSs were located in promoter regions.
