Regional free cash flow dataset: An approach to regional performance evaluation.

ABSTRACT: This data article provides estimates on the Russian regions' aggregate free cash flow, which is not covered by national statistics of major countries. A proper microeconomic model was adapted to regional level data to derive a synthetic indicator of a regional economy's performance. The data contributes to the set of regional performance measures thus enabling a new look at studies of economic growth and development. Conventional economic growth indicators, such as GDP, fixed capital investment or industrial output, are widely criticized since they can have negative values only in terms of growth rates thus showing no evidence of value creation or deterioration. Our data on regional free cash flow eliminates this drawback.

Project description:The dataset presented in this article are related to research articles "Effect of electrolyte convection velocity in the electrode on the performance of vanadium redox flow battery cells with serpentine flow fields" [1] and "Effect of channel dimensions of serpentine flow fields on the performance of a vanadium redox flow battery" [2]. The combined dataset on the pressure drop and electrochemical behavior of the vanadium flow battery cells with active areas of 400 cm2, 900 cm2 and 1500 cm2 were obtained using battery life cycler for the circulation of vanadium electrolyte of concentration 1.61 M VOSO4 dissolved in 5 M H2SO4. The cells were designed with various combinations of flow-channel dimensions of serpentine flow field and the electrochemical performance has been obtained at various flow rates and current densities. In addition to the experimental data, computational fluid dynamics simulations have been performed to investigate the electrolyte distribution across the cell. The shared data enables the reader of research articles to delve into the life cycle behavior at various operating conditions and emphasize the importance of flow-channel dimensions, flow rate and uniform distribution of electrolyte in combating the concentration over-potential.

Dataset for WWW landing pages webobject retrieval performance evaluation.

Project description:This dataset describes data obtained from a multi-day World Wide Web (WWW) measurement campaign distributed internationally across multiple Amazon Web Service (AWS) datacentres. The Chrome web browser was controlled by the Selenium framework to make repetitive requests to several popular websites; the resulting webobjects were captured by a proxy server and details about them stored in the provided SQLite3 databases. A Python script is provided to evaluate the webobjects with respect to their configured as well as their actual expiration times, as part of our more detailed analysis that we provide in [1]. Researchers and practitioners can readily employ this dataset in their own research endeavours with little efforts for avenues of inquiry beyond webobject expiration times we described in [1], as we provide additional information about each webobject and each website visit during the measurement campaign time horizon.

A dataset of European banks in performance evaluation under uncertainty.

Project description:The dataset contains financial indicators from the financial statements of 250 banks operating in Europe which are collated for the 2015 accounting year. First, the dataset is split into input and outputs measures. Then the preferred number of inputs and outputs in relation to the total number of data is selected according to the rule of thumb in data envelopment analysis (DEA). The dataset is related to the research article entitled "Robust optimization with nonnegative decision variables: A DEA approach" (Toloo and Mensah, 2018) [1]. The dataset can be used to evaluate the performance of banks and bank efficiency under uncertainty.

Modelling children ever born using performance evaluation metrics: A dataset.

Project description:Predicting the number of total children ever born in a country is a key component for proper implementation of economic growth policy. Here, performance metrics were used to predict models that appropriately describe the factors that affect children ever born. A comparison of 60% training and 40% validation, 70% training and 30% validation, 80% training and 20% validation also 90% training and 10% validation was performed respectively to examine the three models' behaviours (Poisson regression, Negative Binomial regression and Generalized Poisson regression) with RMSE, R2, MAE and MSE as performance metrics. Although all the three models had almost identical performance evaluation metrics, the Poisson regression was chosen as the most appropriate model because it is the simplest model.

The interplay of blood flow and temperature in regional hyperthermia: a mathematical approach.

Project description:In recent decades, hyperthermia has been used to raise oxygenation levels in tumours undergoing other therapeutic modalities, of which radiotherapy is the most prominent one. It has been hypothesized that oxygenation increases would come from improved blood flow associated with vasodilation. However, no test has determined whether this is a relevant assumption or other mechanisms might be acting. Additionally, since hyperthermia and radiotherapy are not usually co-administered, the crucial question arises as to how temperature and perfusion in tumours will change during and after hyperthermia. Overall, it would seem necessary to find a research framework that clarifies the current knowledge, delimits the scope of the different effects and guides future research. Here, we propose a simple mathematical model to account for temperature and perfusion dynamics in brain tumours subjected to regional hyperthermia. Our results indicate that tumours in well-perfused organs like the brain might only reach therapeutic temperatures if their vasculature is highly disrupted. Furthermore, the characteristic times of return to normal temperature levels are markedly shorter than those required to deliver adjuvant radiotherapy. According to this, a mechanistic coupling of perfusion and temperature would not explain any major oxygenation boost in brain tumours immediately after hyperthermia.

Dataset on blood flow and instantaneous wave-free ratio in normal and stenosed coronary arteries.

Project description:Instantaneous wave-free ratio (iFR) has been proposed as a hemodynamic parameter that can reliably reflect the blood flow in stenosed coronary arteries. Currently, there are few investigations on the quantitative analysis of iFR in the patients regarding the variation of microcirculatory resistance (MR). The data aim to provide geometric (cross-section area of branches) and hemodynamic (flow rate and iFR of branches) parameters of normal and stenosed coronary arteries derived from CFD simulation. The CFD simulation was performed on the three-dimensional artery models reconstructed from computed tomography (CT) images of four subjects. The hemodynamic parameters were obtained in six situations of MR to simulate coronary microvascular dysfunction (CMD). This dataset could be used as the reference to estimate the iFR and flow rate in patients with CMD and stenosis in coronary arteries. The geometric parameters could be used in the modelling of coronary arteries.

Performance Evaluation of Commercial miRNA Expression Array Platforms

Project description:This data is part of a miRNA platform comparison study. We compared the performance characteristics of four commercial miRNA array technologies and found that all platforms performed well in separate measures of performance. The Ambion and Agilent platforms were more accurate, whereas the Illumina and Exiqon platforms were more specific. Furthermore, the data analysis approach had a large impact on the performance, predominantly by improving precision. Performance of four (4) commercially available miRNA platforms was evaluated using 7 placenta samples spiked with synthetic microRNA spikes (in Latin-square design) absent in placenta. Platforms were primarily evaluated for accuracy and specificity.

Fuzzy Uncertainty Modelling in Cost and Cash Flow Forecasting in Project

Project description:Numerous projects (e.g. more than 50% of IT projects) are not finished within budget and cause serious financial problems to the organisations implementing them. It is thus important to be able to predict the cost of projects and cash flows related to them early enough, in order to be able to assess with the necessary anticipation whether the necessary financial means will be available on time and if not, to take in time the necessary measures to solve the menacing problem. In the paper the sources of uncertainty with respect to project cost and cash flows will be identified and their modelling by means of fuzzy sets will be proposed. Such issues neglected in the project management literature as various taxes, duties and impositions, which belong to the area in which project managers are not experts and where they do not follow the detailed regulations, will be discussed too. They are of high importance, because legal changes in this area come often as a surprise for project managers and lead to serious liquidity problems. The approach will be illustrated with a real world case study, in which one of the authors was the member of the project team.

Prehypertensive Blood Pressures and Regional Cerebral Blood Flow Independently Relate to Cognitive Performance in Midlife.

Project description:BackgroundHigh blood pressure is thought to contribute to dementia in late life, but our understanding of the relationship between individual differences in blood pressure (BP) and cognitive functioning is incomplete. In this study, cognitive performance in nonhypertensive midlife adults was examined as a function of resting BP and regional cerebral blood flow (rCBF) responses during cognitive testing. We hypothesized that BP would be negatively related to cognitive performance and that cognitive performance would also be related to rCBF responses within areas related to BP control. We explored whether deficits related to systolic BP might be explained by rCBF responses to mental challenge.Methods and resultsHealthy midlife participants (n=227) received neuropsychological testing and performed cognitive tasks in a magnetic resonance imaging scanner. A pseudocontinuous arterial spin labeling sequence assessed rCBF in brain areas related to BP in prior studies. Systolic BP was negatively related to 4 of 5 neuropsychological factors (standardized ?>0.13): memory, working memory, executive function, and mental efficiency. The rCBF in 2 brain regions of interest was similarly related to memory, executive function, and working memory (standardized ?>0.17); however, rCBF responses did not explain the relationship between resting systolic BP and cognitive performance.ConclusionsRelationships at midlife between prehypertensive levels of systolic BP and both cognitive and brain function were modest but suggested the possible value of midlife intervention.

A dataset of human and robot approach behaviors into small free-standing conversational groups.

Project description:The analysis and simulation of the interactions that occur in group situations is important when humans and artificial agents, physical or virtual, must coordinate when inhabiting similar spaces or even collaborate, as in the case of human-robot teams. Artificial systems should adapt to the natural interfaces of humans rather than the other way around. Such systems should be sensitive to human behaviors, which are often social in nature, and account for human capabilities when planning their own behaviors. A limiting factor relates to our understanding of how humans behave with respect to each other and with artificial embodiments, such as robots. To this end, we present CongreG8 (pronounced 'con-gre-gate'), a novel dataset containing the full-body motions of free-standing conversational groups of three humans and a newcomer that approaches the groups with the intent of joining them. The aim has been to collect an accurate and detailed set of positioning, orienting and full-body behaviors when a newcomer approaches and joins a small group. The dataset contains trials from human and robot newcomers. Additionally, it includes questionnaires about the personality of participants (BFI-10), their perception of robots (Godspeed), and custom human/robot interaction questions. An overview and analysis of the dataset is also provided, which suggests that human groups are more likely to alter their configuration to accommodate a human newcomer than a robot newcomer. We conclude by providing three use cases that the dataset has already been applied to in the domains of behavior detection and generation in real and virtual environments.
