Here, a systematic study of the roles played by Pd seeds during seed-mediated coreduction of Pd-Pt is presented. Either nanoparticles with porous, hollow architectures or concave nanocubes were achieved, depending on whether the synthesis conditions favored galvanic replacement or overgrowth.
