Human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) is an opportunistic pathogen causing a variety of severe viral infections, including irreversible congenital disabilities. Nowadays, HCMV infection is treated by inhibiting the viral DNA polymerase. However, DNA polymerase inhibitors have several drawbacks.
