HUE: The hourly usage of energy dataset for buildings in British Columbia.

ABSTRACT: Having access to long-term consumption data from multiple houses help research simulate and test systems for microgrid, off-grid communities, and alternative energy production. The HUE dataset contains donated data from residential customers of BCHydro, a provincial power utility. There are currently twenty-two houses contain within the dataset with most houses having three years of consumption history. Data was downloaded from BCHydro's customer web porthole by each customer who then donated the data for research. Weather data from the nearest weather station and one-year of simulated solar data also included.

Project description:The data presented here were collected independently for 6 real buildings by researchers of different institutions and gathered in the context of the IEA EBC Annex 81 Data-driven Smart Buildings, as a joint effort to compile a diverse range of datasets suitable for advanced control applications of indoor climate and energy use in buildings. The data were acquired by energy meters, both consumption and PV generation, and sensors of technical installation and indoor climate variables, such as temperature, flow rate, relative humidity, CO2 level, illuminance. Weather variables were either acquired by local sensors or obtained from a close by meteorological station. The data were collected either during normal operation of the building, with observation periods between 2 weeks and 2 months, or during experiments designed to excite the thermal mass of the building, with observation periods of approximately one week. The data have a time resolution varying between 1 min and 15 min; in some case the highest resolution data are also averaged at larger intervals, up to 30 min.

One-year dataset of hourly air quality parameters from 100 air purifiers used in China residential buildings.

Project description:Household air purifiers have been widely used as an effective approach to improving indoor air quality. Air purifiers can automatically record indoor air quality parameters, providing valuable data resources for in-depth data-driven analysis. This work presents a one-year hourly indoor air quality dataset collected by household air purifiers in 100 residential homes in 18 provinces across 4 different climate zones in China. The data were collected from July 1, 2021, to July 1, 2022. The concentrations of formaldehyde, PM2.5, TVOC, temperature, relative humidity, on/off status and the airflow rate of air purifiers during operations were recorded hourly. The data were carefully screened with possibly missing values imputed using chained equation-based methods if any. The dataset provides a comprehensive and detailed picture of the indoor air quality in residential buildings, enabling evaluations on the cleaning effect of air purifiers, the impact of outdoor climate change on indoor air quality, and the future trends in indoor human behavior.

Project description:The data presented in this article are related to the research article entitled "The Influence of Atrium on Energy Performance of Hotel Building" (Vujosevic and Krstic-Furundzic, 2017) [1], which describes the annual energy performance of atrium type hotel building in Belgrade climate conditions, with the objective to present the impact of the atrium on the hotel building's energy demands for space heating and cooling. This dataset is made publicly available to show energy performance of selected hotel design alternatives, in order to enable extended analyzes of these data for other researchers.

Improving energy performance of buildings: Dataset of implemented energy efficiency renovation projects in Latvia.

Project description:This article includes data collected from public and private buildings in Latvia as part of several projects/tenders funded from the governmental Climate Change Financial Instrument (KPFI) of Republic of Latvia. The data provided consists of information on 445 projects, the activities performed therein, as well as numerical data on CO2 emission and energy consumption before and after the projects' implementation. Data cover a period from 2011 to 2020 for various types of buildings. Given the amount, the completeness and the accuracy of data accompanied by qualitative and quantitative information on the funded projects, the datasets could be relevant for evaluating the energy efficiency of the implemented activities and the levels of CO2 and energy reduction. The reported figures could be used for further research on the field of energy performance of buildings and buildings' refurbishments. They could be also taken as case studies by other buildings that plan to implement similar actions.

I-BLEND, a campus-scale commercial and residential buildings electrical energy dataset.

Project description:Efficient energy consumption at the building level is vital for sustainability. Providing energy efficient systems and solutions requires an understanding of how energy gets consumed. However, there is a general lack of large-scale open datasets about the energy consumption of buildings, which hinders the research. The recent emergence of smart energy meters makes it possible to collect such data, which can then be used for analysis. In this paper, we release I-BLEND, 52 months of electrical energy dataset at a one-minute sampling rate from commercial and residential buildings of an academic institute campus in an emerging economy, India. Also, we provide occupancy datasets at a 10-minute sampling rate for each of the campus buildings. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first such dataset from India. Public availability of such fine-granular data will allow users to perform different research tasks such as analyzing the impact of weather or occupancy schedule on energy consumption, detecting anomalies, and developing algorithms for predictive maintenance.

Factors associated with take-home naloxone kit usage in British Columbia: an analysis of administrative data.

Project description:BackgroundThe British Columbia (BC) Take-Home Naloxone (THN) program provides naloxone to people at risk of experiencing or witnessing an opioid overdose for use in reversing suspected overdose events. This study seeks to examine trends and correlates of individuals obtaining a THN kit in BC between 2017 and 2020.MethodsRecords of THN kits distributed between 2017 and 2020 were the primary source of data for this analysis. Frequency tables were used to describe characteristics of people obtaining kits from THN sites. Correlates of individuals obtaining a THN kit to replace a previous kit reported as used to reverse an overdose were assessed with multivariate logistic regression.ResultsBetween January 1, 2017, and December 31, 2020, 240,606 THN kits were reported distributed by registered sites to members of the public, with 90,011 records indicating that a kit was obtained to replace a previous kit that had been used to reverse an overdose. There was a significant trend in increasing kits reported used by year (p < 0.01). The kit recipient's risk of overdose was a significant predictor of having reported using a THN kit, and the strength of the association was dependent on gender (Male: Adjusted odds ratio (AOR) 5.37 [95% confidence interval (CI) 5.08 - 5.67]; Female: AOR 8.35 [95% CI 7.90 - 8.82]; Trans and gender expansive: AOR 3.68 [95% CI 2.82 - 4.79]).ConclusionsBetween 2017 and 2020, THN kits were used to reverse tens of thousands of overdose events in BC, with people at risk of overdose (i.e. people who use drugs [PWUD]) having greater odds of using a kit to reverse an overdose than those not at risk. Thus, PWUD are responsible for reversing the vast majority of overdoses. THN kits are being distributed to the people who use them most. However, additional strategies in conjunction with community-based naloxone distribution programs are needed to address the rising number of illicit drug toxicity deaths.

flEECe, an energy use and occupant behavior dataset for net-zero energy affordable senior residential buildings.

Project description:The behaviors of building occupants have continued to perplex scholars for years in our attempts to develop models for energy efficient housing. Building simulations, project delivery approaches, policies, and more have fell short of their optimistic goals due to the complexity of human behavior. As a part of a multiphase longitudinal affordable housing study, this dataset represents energy and occupant behavior attributes for 6 affordable housing units over nine months in Virginia, USA which are not performing to the net-zero energy standard they were designed for. This dataset provides researchers the ability to analyze the following variables: energy performance, occupant behaviors, energy literacy, and ecological perceptions. Energy data is provided at a 1?Hz sampling rate for four circuits: main, hot water heater, dryer, and HVAC. Building specifications, occupancy, weather data, and neighboring building energy use data are provided to add depth to the dataset. This dataset can be used to update building energy use models, predictive maintenance, policy frameworks, construction risk models, economic models, and more.

Points for energy renovation (PointER): A point cloud dataset of a million buildings linked to energy features.

Project description:Rapid renovation of Europe's inefficient buildings is required to reduce climate change. However, evaluating buildings at scale is challenging because every building is unique. In current practice, the energy performance of buildings is assessed during on-site visits, which are slow, costly, and local. This paper presents a building point cloud dataset that promotes a data-driven, large-scale understanding of the 3D representation of buildings and their energy characteristics. We generate building point clouds by intersecting building footprints with geo-referenced LiDAR data and link them with attributes from UK's energy performance database via the Unique Property Reference Number (UPRN). To mimic England's building stock's features well, we select one million buildings from a range of rural and urban regions, of which half a million are linked to energy characteristics. Building point clouds in new regions can be generated with our published open-source code. The dataset enables novel research in building energy modeling and can be easily expanded to other research fields by adding building features via the UPRN or geo-location.

Magnetotactic bacteria from Pavilion Lake, British Columbia.

Project description:Pavilion Lake is a slightly alkaline, freshwater lake located in British Columbia, Canada (50°51'N, 121°44'W). It is known for unusual organosedimentary structures, called microbialites that are found along the lake basin. These deposits are complex associations of fossilized microbial communities and detrital- or chemical-sedimentary rocks. During the summer, a sediment sample was collected from near the lake's shore, approximately 25-50 cm below the water surface. Magnetotactic bacteria (MTB) were isolated from this sample using a simple magnetic enrichment protocol. The MTB isolated from Pavilion Lake belonged to the Alphaproteobacteria class as determined by nucleotide sequences of 16S rRNA genes. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) revealed that the bacteria were spirillum-shaped and contained a single chain of cuboctahedral-shaped magnetite (Fe3O4) crystals that were approximately 40 nm in diameter. This discovery of MTB in Pavilion Lake offers an opportunity to better understand the diversity of MTB habitats, the geobiological function of MTB in unique freshwater ecosystems, and search for magnetofossils contained within the lake's microbialites.

A compiled dataset of the energy usage indicators and unit energy consumption values available in Ireland.

Project description:This dataset supports the analysis outlined in (McGookin et al., 2021) "An innovative approach for estimating energy demand and supply to inform local energy transitions" [1]. It consists of four key elements: a range of different energy usage indicators (e.g. the number of employees or cars in a region), national unit energy consumption values, energy supply fuel shares per sector, and an overview of the housing stock. Firstly, the range of socio-economic statistics used as indicators of energy demand are primarily gathered from the Central Statistics Office's (CSO), along with sector specific sources like the Department of Transport or Fisheries. Secondly, the national energy demand and supply in the five sectors of agriculture and fishing, industry, residential, services and transport comes from the national reporting body Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland. These two datasets are then used to form the national unit consumption figures for a range of indicators in each sector. A national unit consumption value gives an average energy demand per statistical unit, for example MWh/employee or MWh/km driven. This can be used to estimate subnational energy demand in the absence of recorded energy data below the national level. Finally, the Building Energy Rating database (which is reported quarterly by the CSO) provides details on the Irish housing stock and non-domestic building's primary heating fuels.
