Clematisguniuensis (Ranunculaceae), a new species from Eastern China.

ABSTRACT: Clematisguniuensis sp. nov., a new narrowly endemic species of Clematis, is described and illustrated from the Huangshan Mountains of Eastern China. A description of C.guniuensis is presented along with illustrations, photographs and diagnostic differences between the new species and its putative close allies.

Project description:Clematismae Z.Z.Yang & L.Xie, a new species of Ranunculaceae from Xinjiang, China, is described and illustrated. The new species is morphologically similar to C.orientalis and C.glauca but can be distinguished for being a less hairy plant (hairy in C.orientalis), often 2-ternate leaves (1-2-pinnate for C.orientalis and C.glauca), lanceolate to linear-lanceolate leaflets (elliptic or ovate in C.glauca), larger flowers (smaller flower in C.orientalis) and narrowly lanceolate sepals with acute to slightly attenuate apex (narrowly oblong sepals in C.orientalis and ovate to broadly lanceolate sepals in C.glauca). The new species is endemic to the southern slope of North Tianshan Mountain in Central Xinjiang. The conservation status of the species is also discussed.

Trolliusaustrosibiricus (Ranunculaceae), a new species from South Siberia.

Project description:Trolliusaustrosibiricus Erst & Luferov, sp. nov., a new species from Russian South Siberia is described and illustrated. This new species is endemic to Western and Central Siberia. Morphologically, it is close to the East Asian species T.chinensis and T.macropetalus. However, it differs from the aforementioned species due to the morphology of the rhizomes, aerial shoots, sepals and petals. This species is also distinguished from T.asiaticus, which is widespread in Russia (Western and Eastern Siberia), Mongolia, China, north-eastern Kazakhstan and in the northeast of the European part of Russia, in having a smaller number of sepals, longer persistent styles and petals longer than sepals. In addition, an identification key for all Russian species is given and all species have been discussed.

Lithobius (Ezembius) varioporus, a new species from eastern China (Lithobiomorpha, Lithobiidae).

Project description:Lithobius (Ezembius) varioporussp. nov. (Lithobiomorpha, Lithobiidae), recently discovered from Longquanguan Town, Fuping County, Baoding City, Hebei Province, China, is described. Morphologically it resembles to Lithobius (Ezembius) laevidentata Pei, Ma, Hou, Zhu & Gai, 2015 from the Xinjiang Autonomous Region, but can be easily distinguished from the latter by the Tömösváry's organ, slightly smaller than the adjoining ocelli, no secondary sexual modifications on male tibia 14 and 15, posterior accessory spine of legs 14 and 15 present and the number of coxal pores varying considerably from three to eight. The main morphological characters of the known Chinese species of the subgenusEzembius Chamberlin, 1919 based on adult specimens are presented.

The complete plastome sequence of Clematis guniuensis (Ranunculaceae), a new plant species endemic to China.

Project description:Clematis guniuensis is a new plant species in China, which distributes in both provinces of Zhejiang and Anhui with extremely small population. The whole chloroplast (CP) genome was assembled by NovoPlasty using high-throughput sequencing data generated by an Illumina Hiseq X Ten platform. The circular chloroplast genome is 159,682 bp in length, and comprises a large single copy of 79,461 bp, a small single copy of 49,156 bp, and two inverted repeats of 31,064 bp each. The CP genome contains 137 genes, including 89 protein-coding genes, eight rRNA genes, 36 tRNA genes, and four pseudogenes. All the pseudogenes were infA, rpl32, ycf1, and ndhK. Phylogenetic analysis results indicated that C. guniuensis was sister to C. trichotoma, with a support rate of 100%.

Project description:The genus Acetalius Sharp currently contains two species from Japan. In this paper, a third species, Acetalius grandis Yin & Li, sp. n., is described from eastern China. The foveal pattern of Acetalius, and polymorphism and major diagnostic features of Acetalius grandis are figured. An updated key to Acetalius species is provided.

Three new species of Conidiobolus sensu stricto from plant debris in eastern China.

Project description:The genus Conidiobolus Bref. is widely distributed and the Conidiobolus sensu lato contained three other genera, Capillidium, Microconidiobolus and Neoconidiobolus. A molecular phylogeny based on the nuclear large subunit of rDNA (nucLSU), the mitochondrial small subunit of rDNA (mtSSU) and the translation elongation factor 1-alpha gene (TEF1) revealed three novel species within the clade of Conidiobolus s.s., i.e. C. bifurcatus sp. nov., C. taihushanensis sp. nov. and C. variabilis sp. nov. These three species were isolated from plant debris in eastern China. Morphologically, C. bifurcatus sp. nov. is characterised by its secondary conidiophores often branched at the tip to form two short stipes each bearing a secondary conidium. C. taihushanensis sp. nov. is different from the others in its straight apical mycelia and the production of 2-5 conidia. C. variabilis sp. nov. is distinctive because of its various shapes of primary conidia. All these three new taxa are illustrated herein with an update key to the species of the genus Conidiobolus s.s.

Two new species of the genus Panorpa (Mecoptera, Panorpidae) from eastern China and a new synonym.

Project description:Panorpa Linnaeus, 1758 is the largest genus in the scorpionfly family Panorpidae. Herein we describe two new species from eastern China, Panorpa jinhuaensis sp. nov. from Jinhua, Zhejiang Province and Panorpa menqiuleii sp. nov. from Yuexi and Huoshan, Anhui Province. Panorpa wrightae Cheng, 1957 from Mount Mogan, Zhejiang Province is considered to be a junior subjective synonym of Panorpa mokansana Cheng, 1957 from the same locality. Panorpa mokansana Cheng, 1957 is redescribed and illustrated in detail. A key to species of Panorpa from eastern China is also provided.

Semiaquilegia quelpaertensis (Ranunculaceae), a new species from the Republic of Korea.

Project description:Semiaquilegia quelpaertensissp. nov., a new species belonging to the family Ranunculaceae, from Hallasan National Park in Jeju-do, Republic of Korea, is described and illustrated. The new species is similar to Semiaquilegia adoxoides (DC.) Makino, but can be readily distinguished by a thick underground stem, shallowly lobed leaflets, larger flowers, (4-)6 staminodes and conspicuously rugose tuberculate seed surface.

Morphologically it resembles Lithobius (Monotarsobius) songi Pei, Ma, Shi, Wu, Zhou, 2011 from Province Hebei, China, but can be readily distinguished from the latter by antennae composed of 15+15-19+19 articles versus 19+19-21+21 articles, terminal claw of female gonopods inner tooth broader than the outer vs dorsal and ventral tooth about same in size, ventral plectrotaxy 01320, dorsal plectrotaxy 10210 in the 14th legs, 01210 and 10200 respectively in Lithobius (Monotarsobius) songi. A key to the Lithobius (Monotarsobius) species of China and Korea is presented.

A new species of Rana from the Dabie Mountains in eastern China (Anura, Ranidae).

Project description:A new species Rana dabieshanensissp. n. is described from the Dabie Mountains in Anhui Province, China, based on morphological character differences and molecular analyses. The new species can be distinguished from its congeners by a combination of diagnostic characters. The results of phylogenetic analyses (based on 12s rRNA, 16s rRNA, ND2, Cyt b, RAG1, BDNF and Tyr) and genetic distances (based on Cyt b) indicate that the new species belongs to the Rana longicrus group, and is placed as the sister taxon to R. hanluica.
