<h4>Background</h4>Wild-type pigs express several carbohydrate moieties on their cell surfaces that differ from those expressed by humans. This difference in profile leads to pig tissue cell recognition of human blood cells causing sequestration, in addition to antibody-mediated xenograft injury.
