Synthesis and spectral properties of new fluorescent hydrazone disperse dyes and their dyeing application on polyester fabrics.

ABSTRACT: A new series of solid state fluorescent disperse dyes based on hybrid structure of pyrrolinone ester (PES)/coumarin moiety was prepared and fully characterized using spectroscopic analysis such as 1HNMR, MS and IR spectra. The coumarin derivative (7- amino-4- methyl coumarin) was initially prepared from amino phenol via multi steps condensation reactions and its diazonium salt coupled with the pyrrolinone ester to form the hydrazone dyes. 1HNMR data of the prepared dyes exhibited a pure hydrazone form as a mixture of E, Z isomers. These dyes showing a significant emission in solid state as well as on the dyed fabric. The dyeing application on polyester fabrics was investigated which showing that these dyes show high affinity to polyester fabric, and minor change in the dye affinity by changing pH even under alkaline conditions was observed.

Novel Monosulfonated Azo Dyes: Design, Synthesis, and Application as Disperse Dyes on Polyester Fabrics.

Project description:This study synthesizes and characterizes a series of disperse dyes based on azo Schiff bases, compounds 8-10. Their structures were identified using various analytical techniques, such as FT-IR, 1H/13C NMR, and mass spectrometry. The study's primary objective was to investigate the behavior of disperse dyes 8-10 when used for dyeing polyester fabrics under different conditions, including variations in time, temperature, shade, and pH. The polyester fabric was chosen for this research due to its wide usage and popularity in the textile industry. By examining the effect of temperature and time on the dyeing process, it was observed that increasing the dyeing temperature from low to high (ranging from 90 to 120 °C) and extending the dyeing time from 10 to 30 min resulted in higher K/S values for the polyester samples dyed with disperse dyes. Additionally, dyes 9 and 10 exhibited the most excellent K/S values among the tested dyes. Furthermore, the study found that dye 8 showed the best dyeing performance as the pH of the dye bath increased to 6.

Synthesis, characterization, and application of novel aryldiazenyl disperse dyes on polyester fabrics.

Project description:Azo dyes are widely used for dyeing polyester fabrics but require optimization of properties like color strength and fastness. Fourteen novel disperse azo dyes were synthesized from 2,3-naphthalenediol and aniline derivatives to examine their potential for polyester dyeing. The dyes were prepared via diazotization and coupling reactions and characterized using FT-IR, UV-Vis, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, and elemental analysis. Furthermore, several techniques were employed to study the azo-hydrazone tautomerism, including UV-Vis spectroscopy, NMR spectroscopy, and computational methods. DFT computations revealed hydrazone tautomers were more stable than azo tautomers. The prepared azo dyes were applied on polyester fabrics at 2% depth using a high temperature pressure technique in water utilizing DYEWELL-002 as a dispersing agent. The color shading of dyed polyester samples ranged from peach amber to apple of my eye, depending on the coupler moieties. The fastness properties, assessed using a grey scale of dyed polyester fabrics, indicated very good to excellent grades for most dyes. Additionally, measurements of color strength (K/S), dye exhaustion (%E), as well as colorimetric colors CILAB of dyed polyester fabrics values, were measured and discussed in terms of the effect of substituents. The findings provide new insights into structure-performance relationships to design optimized disperse dyes for polyester coloration. Overall, the synthesized aryldiazenyl dyes are promising candidates for dyeing polyester fabrics across a spectrum of shades with good fastness properties.

Dyeing Performance of Disperse Dyes on Polyester Fabrics Using Eco-Friendly Carrier and Their Antioxidant and Anticancer Activities.

Project description:Both non eco- and eco-friendly carriers were utilized for accelerating the dyeing rate of polyethylene terephthalate fabrics (PET) dyed with disperse dyes at 100 °C. Fastness properties of the dyed fabrics showed good and excellent results. Finally, the prepared disperse dyes 1 and 2 showed potent anti-tumor cytotoxic activity in vitro using MCF-7 cells (human breast cancer cell line), HepG-2 cells (human Hepatocellular carcinoma), HCT-116 (colon carcinoma), A-549 cells (Lung carcinoma cell line), and anti-oxidant activities.

Synthesis of Some Novel 2-Amino-5-arylazothiazole Disperse Dyes for Dyeing Polyester Fabrics and Their Antimicrobial Activity.

Project description:The present work describes the synthesis of a series of four novel biologically active 2-amino-5-arylazothiazole disperse dyes containing the sulfa drug nucleus. The structures of the synthesized thiazole derivatives are confirmed using UV-spectrophotometry, infrared and nuclear magnetic resonance techniques and elemental analysis. The synthesized dyes are applied to polyester fabrics as disperse dyes and their fastness properties to washing, perspiration, rubbing, sublimation, and light are evaluated. The synthesized compounds exhibit promising biological efficiency against selected Gram-positive and Gram-negative pathogenic bacteria as well as fungi.

Nano TiO2 Imparting Multifunctional Performance on Dyed Polyester Fabrics with some Disperse Dyes Using High Temperature Dyeing as an Environmentally Benign Method.

Project description:Polyester fabrics were dyed with prepared disperse dyes using the high temperature dyeing method. The dye exhaustion of the dye baths were compared to the low-temperature dyeing method in an attempt to study the proportion of the dye effluent solution that affects the environment. The dye uptake of the high temperature dyeing method (HT) of polyester fabric was compared with low temperature dyeing, hence (HT) increased the color strength of the investigated dyes by 309 and 265%. This means that the amount of dye present in the dye effluents by using the high-temperature dyeing method is almost non-existent, and this is reflected positively on the environment as these wastes pollute the environment. Post-treated polyester fabric was prepared through a two-step hot process after being immersed in a solution of Titanium (IV) oxide nanoparticle sizeTiO2 NPs (21 nm primary particle size) at 80 °C followed by curing at 140 °C. The treated fabric realized an optimum UV protection factor of 34.9 and 283.6 degrees. These fabrics also demonstrated a strong ability to improve the light fastness properties. Finally, the potential applications of such value-added fabrics as self-cleaning and antifungal activities were investigated. The results indicated that the treated dyed fabrics with TiO2 NPs endowed fabrics with the excellent self-cleaning of methylene blue dye. From the above, the treated fabrics with nano-titanium dioxide can be used in some promising fields, for example, medical ones.

The Identification of Polyester Fibers Dyed with Disperse Dyes for Forensic Purposes.

Project description:In forensic laboratories, the most commonly analyzed microtraces are microscopic fragments of single fibers. One of the main goals of the examination of fragments of fibers a few millimeters long is to determine their characteristic physicochemical properties and compare them with fibers originating from a known source (e.g., a suspect's clothes). The color and dyes of fiber microtraces play an important role in their research and evaluation, being analyzed by means of microscopic, spectroscopic, and chromatographic methods. The results of examinations conducted with the use of spectroscopic techniques might be ambiguous due to overlapping bands of absorption and the transmission and dispersion of electromagnetic radiation corresponding to the specific chemical structure of the fibers and their dyes. For this reason, it is very important to improve currently available spectroscopic methods and/or to propose new ones that allow evidential materials to be analyzed in a much more reliable way. In this review, the possibility of the use of chromatographic techniques with different detection systems for such analyses is underlined. This review covers the different analytical methods used in the forensic analysis of polyester fibers dyed with disperse dyes. Polyester fibers occupy the first position among synthetic fibers in their use for a variety of purposes, and disperse dyes are commonly applied for dyeing them.

Synthesis of Benzisothiazole-Azo Disperse Dyes for High Resistance to Alkaline Treatments and Peroxide Bleaching of Polyester and Polyester/Cotton Fabric.

Project description:We proposed in this paper to design and synthesize a series of benzisothiazole-based heterocyclic azo disperse dyes with high resistance to alkali and peroxide. These newly synthesized disperse dyes were confirmed using 1H nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR), mass spectroscopy, and a UV-visible spectrophotometer. The resistances to alkali and peroxide were examined by dyeing polyester fabric with these synthesized disperse dyes in sodium hydroxide solution and alkaline hydrogen peroxide solution, respectively. It was found that the disperse dyes having cyano and hydroxyl groups exhibited poor resistance to alkali and peroxide. When the cyano and hydroxyl groups were substituted with ethyl, benzyl, and p-methylbenzyl groups, the synthesized disperse dyes exhibited extremely high resistance to alkali and peroxide. Utilizing the high resistance to alkali and peroxide of synthesized disperse dyes, the polyester suede fabric and polyester/cotton blended fabric could be produced by combining pretreatment with dyeing in one bath. From pilot-plant production based on 1-ton fabric, the one-bath process provided the advantages of saving electric power, steam, water, and man-hour.

Synthesis of Azo Disperse Dyes with High Absorption for Efficient Polyethylene Terephthalate Dyeing Performances in Supercritical Carbon Dioxide.

Project description:Supercritical carbon dioxide dyeing (SCDD) not only enables strong dyeing performance for a versatile range of polymer material but is also regarded as a green chemical media due to its low environmental impact as well as low risk of product denaturation. Over the decades, azo disperse dyes have been revealed to be efficient dyes and represent the wide majority of dyeing material. Azo dyes possess a wide variety of functional groups to optimize dye synthesis and tune the light absorption properties. Using SCDD, end-chain of different lengths, and functional group exhibiting various electronic affinity, six disperse red azo dyes were synthesized to investigate dyeing performances as woven fabric type, color strain, and color fastness after dyeing are discussed. Dye structure synthesized through a coupling reaction was confirmed by 1H NMR and mass spectroscopy. We found that the light absorption wavelength and absorption coefficient value variation are associated to the nature of the functional group. From the color strength values of the polyethylene terephthalate woven after dyeing, we find that the fiber host and dye dopant chemical structure greatly influence the dyeing process by providing enhanced woven, color strain, and color fastness. In comparison with commercial products, our approach not only improves the dyeing process but also guarantees a strong resistance of the dyed product against water, detergent, perspiration, abrasion, and friction.

Synthesis of novel azo pyrazole disperse dyes for dyeing and antibacterial finishing of PET fabric under supercritical carbon dioxide.

Project description:Supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO2) has been suggested as a good substitution to environmentally harmful water-based tincturing. The present study describes the successful synthesis of some biologically active dispersion tinctures for supercritical carbon dioxide tincturing of polyester fabric. The coupling of 1-cyanoacetylpiperidine (1) with the diazonium salt of aryl amine derivatives (2a-d) produced 1-((aryldiazenyl) cyanoacetyl piperidines (3a-d). To create the derivatives of 4-(phenyldiazenyl)-5-(piperidin-1-yl)-1H-pyrazol-3-amine (5a), the propane nitriles (3a-d) were condensed with hydrazine hydrate. However, the unexpected 3-aminopyrazol-5-ol yellow-red dispersion dyes (4a-d) were identified as the reaction results. The MS, IR, and NMR spectra were used to describe the novel dyes, and the results exactly matched the suggested structures. The antibacterial test, which was conducted using the AATCC method, revealed that some of the compounds (3a-d) and (4a-d) had impressive antibacterial capabilities against the researched +ve and gram -ve bacteria. For eight dyestuffs, the dyeability, color strength, and color fastness of the tincturing process were evaluated. The evaluation focused on determining color uptake using a gauge for color strength (K/S). All dyes displayed excellent rubbing, washing, and light fastness (color change and staining grade of 4-5).

Development of the Microemulsion Electrokinetic Capillary Chromatography Method for the Analysis of Disperse Dyes Extracted from Polyester Fibers.

Project description:The study aimed to develop a method for the separation of dispersed dyes extracted from polyester fibers. Nine commercially available disperse dyes, which were used to dye three polyester fabrics, were tested. Extraction of dyes from 1 cm long threads was carried out in chlorobenzene at 100 °C for 6 h. The separation was performed using microemulsion electrokinetic capillary chromatography (MEEKC) with photodiode array detection. Microemulsion based on a borate buffer with an organic phase of n-octane and butanol and a mixture of surfactants, sodium dodecyl sulphate and sodium cholate, were used. The addition of isopropanol and cyclodextrins to microemulsion resulted in a notable improvement in resolution and selectivity. The content of additives was optimized by using the Doehlert experimental design. Values of the coefficient of variance obtained in the validation process, illustrating the repeatability and intermediate precision of the migration times fit in the range of 0.11-1.24% and 0.58-3.21%, respectively. The developed method was also successfully applied to the differentiation of 28 real samples-polyester threads collected from clothing. The obtained results confirmed that proposed method may be used in the discriminant analysis of polyesters dying by disperse dyes and is promisingly employable in forensic practice.
