Primula dongchuanensis (Primulaceae), a new species from northern Yunnan, China.

ABSTRACT: Primula dongchuanensis Z.K.Wu & Yuan Huang, a new species of Primulaceae from Dongchuan of northern Yunnan, China, is described and illustrated. Both morphological and molecular evidence support P. dongchuanensis as a member of the sect. Proliferae. It is similar to P. aurantiaca W.W.Smith & Forrest, but is distinguished by having unique raceme inflorescences. Its distribution, phenology and conservation status are also provided.

Primula sunhangii (Primulaceae): a new species from Hubei, Central China.

Project description:This report provides a description of Primula sunhangii from the Shennongjia Forestry District, Hubei Province in Central China, which is categorized as a new species of the primrose family. Primula sunhangii is morphologically similar to P. involucrata Wall. ex Duby in terms of its simple umbel, efarinose, and prolonged bracts. However, P. sunhangii is distinguished by its glabrous sepal, short petiole (compare with blade) and cylindrical calyx and capsule. Molecular phylogenetic analysis based on nuclear and cpDNA genes demonstrates that P. sunhangii and P. involucrata are closely related. Combining genetic and morphological data, the recognition of P. sunhangii as a unique new species is supported.

Morphological and Molecular Phylogenetic Data Reveal a New Species of Primula (Primulaceae) from Hunan, China.

Project description:A new species of Primulaceae, Primula undulifolia, is described from the hilly area of Hunan province in south-central China. Its morphology and distributional range suggest that it is allied to P. kwangtungensis, both adapted to subtropical climate, having contiguous distribution and similar habitat, growing on shady and moist cliffs. Petioles, scapes and pedicels of them are densely covered with rusty multicellular hairs, but the new species can be easily distinguished by its smaller flowers and narrowly oblong leaves with undulate margins. Molecular phylogenetic analysis based on four DNA markers (ITS, matK, trnL-F and rps16) confirmed the new species as an independent lineage and constitutes a main clade together with P. kwangtungensis, P. kweichouensis, P. wangii and P. hunanensis of Primula sect. Carolinella.

The complete chloroplast genome of an endangered endemic herb species in China, Primula filchnerae (Primulaceae).

Project description:Primula filchnerae (Primulaceae) is an endangered endemic herb species in China. In this study, we characterized the complete chloroplast genome of P. filchnerae based on next generation sequencing (NGS). The chloroplast genome of P. filchnerae was 151,547 bp in size, containing a large single-copy (LSC) region of 82, 662 bp and a small single-copy (SSC) region of 17,749 bp. These two regions were separated by a pair of inverted repeat regions (IRs), each of 25,568 bp. A total of 130 functional genes were encoded, consisted of 86 protein-coding genes, 36 tRNA genes, and eight rRNA genes.

Project description:Primula filchnerae Knuth is an endangered species endemic to China. Its complete chloroplast genome was reported in this study for the first time. The whole chloroplast genome was 151, 443 base pairs in length with 131 genes, including 66 protein-coding genes, 37 tRNAs, and 4 rRNAs. In addition, the accD was inferred to be a pseudogene. Phylogenetic analysis showed a sister relationship between P. filchnerae and P. sinensis Sabine ex Lindl.

Project description:A new species of Lysimachia (Primulaceae), Lysimachia tianmaensis K. Liu, S.B. Zhou & Ying Wang sp. nov., is described and illustrated from Jinzhai County, Anhui, China. It is endemic to Dabieshan Mountain, China. The new species has yellow flowers and belongs to the subgenus Lysimachia section Nummularia series Grammicae. It is very easily distinguishable from other related species by having alternate leaves with brown patches beneath and an auriculated leaf base.

Project description:A new species, Lysimachia huangsangensis (Primulaceae), from Hunan, China is described and illustrated. The new species is closely related to L. carinata because of the crested calyx, but differs in the leaf blades that are ovate to elliptic and (3-)4.5-9 × 2-3.4 cm, 2-5-flowered racemes, and the calyx lobes that are ovate-lanceolate and 5-6 × 3-4 mm. The systematic placement and conservation status are also discussed.

Primulaxilingensis (Primulaceae), a new species from Sichuan, China.

Project description:A new species, Primulaxilingensis K.Huang & Z.X.Fu, sp. nov. (Primulaceae), is described and illustrated. In gross morphology, it is clearly allied to section Minutissimae on account of having stolons, being glabrous, leaf rosette less than or equal to corolla, flower solitary and bract not swollen at base. The new species is easily distinguished by the combination of scape densely yellow farinose, leaf apex acute, rarely broadly obtuse, corolla pale purplish blue and style 3.0-6.0 mm above base of corolla tube, stamens reaching the corolla tube mouth in thrum flower. In addition, the distribution map, morphological comparison of related species and conservation status of the new species are also provided.

Primulapingbaensis (Primulaceae), a new species from Guizhou, China.

Project description:Primulapingbaensis Na Zhang, X.Q.Jiang & Z.K.Wu, a new species of Primulaceae from Gaofeng Mountain of Pingba county, Guizhou, China, is described and illustrated. Morphological evidence supports P.pingbaensis as a member of P.sect.Petiolares on account of scape elongating, pedicels conspicuously thickening in fruit, and its capsule cracking irregularly round the top and crumbling away. Amongst the members of subsect. Davidii, the new species is characterized by having a uniquely smooth leaf blade due to inconspicuously raised veinlets and homostylous flowers with the style usually extending beyond the anthers. The distribution, phenology and conservation status of the new species are also provided.

It can be further distinguished from L.crista-galli by the absence of calyx lobule spur, and from L.carinata by the black glandular striates in the corolla lobes, rather than punctate.
