Damaged or unwanted cellular proteins are degraded by either autophagy or the ubiquitin/proteasome pathway. In <i>Arabidopsis thaliana,</i> sensing of D-glucose is achieved by the heterotrimeric G protein complex and regulator of G-protein signaling 1 (AtRGS1).
